Wil Myers was put on the 10 day IL yesterday for undisclosed reasons. He was taken off and is playing tonight.

The Dodgers are 29-10, that is a 120-42 pace for a full season. That seems good.

Kershaw and Jansen are both resuscitated, Jansen is back to hitting 94 when he needs and Kershaw has a 1.50 ERA.

The new guy in RF looks alright too. 2.1 WAR which comes out around 9 WAR pace for 162.

Atlanta put in a position player to pitch down only 3 runs, for an out. (it actually worked.)

Jansen velocity (cutter):

2017 - 93.5
2018 - 92.7
2019 - 92.1
2020 - 91.2

Jansen velocity (sinker):

2017 - 95.2
2018 - 94.3
2019 - 93.5
2020 - 92.7

K-rate is still excellent but the velocity loss isn't plateauing.

Does NESN have "boos" in their broadcast? I don't know if it's Oakland or Fox who's responsible, but it was nice to hear them when the Padres pitcher threw over to first.
Edit: again, is Fox filling all those stadium seats or has the team done it? Why have the Sox been such cheapskates in this area?

Josh Hader had faced 47 batters this year without giving up a hit before allowing two straight to the Indians. The first a leadoff double to the .130-hitting Oscar Mercado for his first XBH of the season, the next was a game-winner by Cesar Hernandez.

Hader’s job is secure as anyone’s, but damn is Devin Williams untouchable right now. .6 ERA, .67 WHIP and 18.6 k/9. His changeup is one of the best pitches in baseball.

Bieber is "must-see TV" today. Through 9 batters: 7 K's and 2* exciting defensive plays.

*Luplow made what looked like an impressive running catch in LF if you ignore the part where he initially broke the wrong direction.

The wheels came off after that. Was no longer getting the first pitch strike and way too many two-strike foul balls... but he ended his day embarrassing Yelich on 3 pitches with the bases loaded. A bad day for Bieber looks like this: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 10 K.

Yeah, West is a good umpire, but otherwise a troglodyte. One nice thing about that game is that BROCKHOLT may be breaking out of his slump, went 3 for 4 on the night.

Just because West got a few important calls correct for the Red Sox doesn't make him a good umpire. Pretty much any measure you can find places him somewhere between mediocre and terrible. This study has him as consistently among the absolute worst in baseball at calling balls and strikes.

The cradle of the game.
With MFY losing to Buffalo tonight and Orioles beating the Mets, Os and MFY could be tied (loss column) for 3rd in the AL East. And a 4-game set between the 2 begins Thursday. The last time Sox and MFY both finished at the bottom of the standings was 1966.

Matt Wieters with the longest AB ever with the bases loaded just now, a 19 pitch AB that ended with a fly out to CF.

They’ve evidently only been tracking that since ‘88, still pretty crazy. The previous most (since ‘88) was 15.

how about this race in the AL for the 8th seed? (the 7th seed is almost certain to be one of CWS/CLE/MIN, all have .600 winning percentages or better)

New York 21-21
Baltimore(!) 20-21
Detroit(!) 19-21
Seattle 19-23

Toronto is currently the second seed in the AL East at 24-18. 18 games to make up 3 for the Yanks, certainly possible if they get their shit together.

30 is the record for the Braves in 1883. It is not a franchise record like many are claiming at present.

Above 30 for one hasn’t been reached since 1897, between a team with Cap Anson’s final season, the Chicago Colts, and one that would call up Honus Wagner for roughly another month, the Louisville Colonels.
