Blake Snell with 6 no-hit innings last night. He's now 19-5, 2.03 ERA. A couple more games like that and he'll be the odds-on favorite for the Cy Young.
Now in positive territory after taking 3 of 4 from Arizona. Tomorrow they start a nine-game road trip @SF, @LAD, @Ariz which will most likely determine the NL West.Walk off win for the Rockies against the Dbacks. Colorado and their -2 run differential doesn't want to go away.
Classic Maddon. The wacky, unconventional genius. When it works, people rave about him. When this shit happens, it seems to get overlooked.Top of the 10th. 1 out. Bases loaded. 1 run lead.
Cubs's Pedro Strop is up. (Their closer). He has pitched 1.2 innings.
Does Maddon send a PH to increase the lead? No. He send Strop to hit. He promptly not only hits into a DP (home to first) but he injures himself running to first and is removed from the game anyway. This is a reliever, not an NL starter who is better used to batting and running.
I've seen Maddon try to lose games in the WS and now this. Not the genius everyone brands him as. Not at all.
1-1 going into bottom 9.Rays/A’s tied at 1 in the 6th. If Rays can sweep, they will be down 5 (4 in the loss column) with 14 to play.
And Strop out for the season. With Morrow still out that is bad news.Classic Maddon. The wacky, unconventional genius. When it works, people rave about him. When this shit happens, it seems to get overlooked.
That is a full-blown ump meltdown. I have not seen many that nutty, I must say. That two strike call on Harper on the end there, holy moly.Hey Laz.... Nobody came to the ballpark to watch you ump!
(he was screaming at the WSH bench/ and was yelling about Harper
Austin Meadows has been dominating AAA since he came over from PIT and is still down there for explicitly this reason...the Rays want prospects playing meaningful games and getting reps vs riding the bench...and it's not like the big-league club is exactly struggling lately. Also, Wong is pretty far down on the depth chart. He got leapfrogged by Lowe and Wendle this season, he was left unprotected in the Rule 5 last year and may be again this year. He has a weak arm and little power and the Rays just aren't super high on him. Their system is loaded and he's not considered top tier. The idea that the Rays, of all organizations, don't give young guys a shot is just laughable. Something like half their team right now is rookies.Kean Wong may have a big league future. He may even be called up to Tampa Bay as soon as tomorrow.
But... Isn't it better for prospects to play then to sit on the bench? Since the Durham Bulls have been in the playoffs and still have a game left after winning the International League playoffs... Kolten's musings seem quite silly.
That 2-1 extra-inning loss to the A’s on Friday looming large. Runners on 2nd and 3rd, no out, in the 6th and couldn’t score—in addition to multiple other squanders. 3 back in the loss vs 5 would have really made this a race. As is, A’s would need to tank pretty hard. They do have 5 more against the Angels and 3 against the Mariners, though, solid teams and division rivals....maybe, just maybe.Tampa Bay now 5 back in the loss column with 12 to play
After reading about the epic collapses of the past, nothing is impossible
And one of the AL division leadersThe Rays now have a better record than two of the three NL division leaders.
...and the talk here in the spring was a 100 loss season as they undergo an Astros like purge of a few years ago....they just need to get that new yard built in downtown Tampa
Remember when I asked you in May if you were mad that other teams were bringing up guys like Gleyber and TB still hadn't called Adames up, and you were fine with it? They are 45-27 when he starts, 40-39 when he does not.Angels laying a big fat egg tonight. A’s up 9-0 in the 6th.
I don’t know that I buy that stat being anything other than random variation. Adames has been solid, but I don’t think his .750 OPS is really make or break. They got the pitching figured out better as the season progressed and the trade deadline really kicked them into high gear. I stand by my decision!Remember when I asked you in May if you were mad that other teams were bringing up guys like Gleyber and TB still hadn't called Adames up, and you were fine with it? They are 45-27 when he starts, 40-39 when he does not.
I know he is nuts but I love watching him play.Puig with a pinch hit 3 run home run to send Dodgers Stadium into a frenzy. Dodgers on their way to a 2.5 lead in the West.
I don't think any city deserves the cesspool that is the Marlins organization. Well, except NYC to replace the Yankees.Or Montreal or Brooklyn. Florida does not deserve the teams they have. Well, maybe the Marlins.
The Dodgers sweep pretty much settles that division race -- LAD at 93% per BP, 96% per FangraphsPuig with a pinch hit 3 run home run to send Dodgers Stadium into a frenzy. Dodgers on their way to a 2.5 lead in the West.
