That was my thought too. You don't usually suddenly need to spend more time with faith and family unless you've done something that violates your faith and your family is pissed.Probably got caught with his side piece.
The entire coaching staff has been turned over, practically. There's a ton of organizational stuff required of a DC, not to mention the game day responsibilities required of all the positional coaches. Just seems like this staff is going to be way behind the curve for a team that has enjoyed such stability year to year. No, not really.
Really surprising turn from Schiano, but there's a lot of time to get the DC in place before next season.
Went to SB 46 without a DC and the year before that had one of the best regular seasons of the whole run without one. They still have Belichick, right? My official stance on this is, who gives a fuck. It'll be fine.
Now back to hunting for WRs and TEs.
The faith thing makes me wonder if it was a dude.Probably got caught with his side piece.
Dude. McDaniels is still the OC.The entire coaching staff has been turned over, practically.
We'd like to introduce our new defensive coordinator,BillSteve Belichick.
Bielema did leak that he expected to be named DC after Flores left for Miami.Bielema is next up to make the play calls, I guess?
Suddenly? Why are we suddenly the "off season drama" organization?
Maybe bringing in Bennett had him teetering and the Mayo hire was the final straw. Honestly, based on his time in Tampa, this kind of feels like addition by subtraction.I was wondering about Schiano's input or lack thereof into the Mayo hire as well.
Yup—I just can’t worry too much so long as BB and TB are in place...they’ve earned that faith. Which doesn’t change that this is an odd developmentThey still have Belichick, right? My official stance on this is, who gives a fuck. It'll be fine.
Now back to hunting for WRs and TEs.
Agreed. My quintessential memory of that asshole is him telling the Bucs to storm the line during a kneel down and knock down the other players. On a kneel down! That is Schiano in a nutshell, an asshole.I mean, good. He's a renowned jerk and it will be pleasant not to root for him.
Yup. I’m not concerned about this at all. In fact, I’m happy because I hate Schiano. This is where having McDaniels is yuuuuge. BB can basically say, "Josh, you've got the entire offense." And then BB can work much more closely with whomever is going to run the defense (Bielema?). Bill really doesn't have to worry about the offensive side of the ball with McDaniels and Scar on board. Too much high quality experience - as good as it gets in the NFL really. So his energies - football-wise - can be spent on the defensive side of the ball.
My thoughts exactly. I never liked the hire.Good riddance.
Stop playing footsies with us.Mr. Ryan, please pick up the white courtesy telephone
Yeah, I could really give two shots how he comes off to us as fans from another city. I don’t care if he’s an ass hole or a dick head. If he’s a good coach - and one would assume BB thinks he is - then that’s good enough for me. I’m not exactly doing cartwheels that he’s gone because he came off as a jerk. I could give a shit about the personalities of the coaches as long as the team performs. I’d take Sexy Rexy if BB thought it best.I guess I'm an outlier - I thought he was a good hire (personality aside) because of the high number of draft picks the Pats have. They would seem to need a technician on the defensive side of the ball, and that plus aggressive play calling are a decent portion of his reputation.
Probably got caught with his side piece.
I'll echo this sentiment as it was the very first thing that came to mind when I read his statement. "Recalibrate my priorities?" Okay, guy. That was my thought too. You don't usually suddenly need to spend more time with faith and family unless you've done something that violates your faith and your family is pissed.
This is a fantastic line. You don't usually suddenly need to spend more time with faith and family unless you've done something that violates your faith and your family is pissed.
Another underqualified hire. We'd like to introduce our new defensive coordinator, Bill Belichick.
At this point in the run, sign me up. I'm here to be entertained, and Bill Belichick has infinite credit in the bank on any decision he makes. Just don't call timeout before a 4th and goal as an assistant coach.Mr. Ryan, please pick up the white courtesy telephone
Hey, Rob worked under Belichick before. I've read Rex's book on the 46 defense and I think they are probably 70-80% compatible (they believe in game-planning, multiple coverage schemes, multiple double-teaming options, DL that can defend the run, and schemed pressure). They are at pretty different ends of the spectrum on the other 20-30% though. At this point in the run, sign me up. Hmm, maybe Rob could get his brother a foot in the door? Sorry, couldn’t resist.Hey, Rob worked under Belichick before.
