Did you watch it? Robert Kraft was within one fucking day of hiring Dom Capers to replace Pete Carroll, then Parcells called to deal. I do not care why he called, he called and B.B. became coach in 2000. No call, Capers, got that? Kraft said it.

Nothing against Capers, but we’re not sitting here talking about the 6th ring and 8 appearance (since 2000) if it was Capers. Not close.

As for what happened when Parcells left on such bad terms in such an unprofessional way — yeah it was bad. But Kraft admitted to doing his part in fucking up the relationship.
Yes, I watched it and am familiar with what happened. I’m still allowed to dislike Parcells.

The anecdote from Pioli about how he encouraged the rapprochement over a round of golf in Nantucket was new to me. Ultimately irrelevant to the key points of the story but a fun thing to hear them recall. I had forgotten that Pioli is married to Parcells’ daughter.
Yup, that was pretty good, and was the type of thing I was looking for more of. Felt like we saw LT talk about what it was like playing for BB and Parcells without actually telling us what it was like to play for them. Although, the one thing I did like with LT was when he admitted that his career basically ended when BB left the Giants for Cleveland, and then a couple months later Parcells resigned.

I actually got the impression listening to Bill talk about it that he was just as pissed about that situation, and how he was supposed to be the successor for the Giants, and Parcells screwed him over. I think he felt that Parcells knew he wasn't coming back, so he never should have let him take the Browns job.

But if what Francesa says is true — George Young disliked Belichick and would not have picked him (see 30/30 thread in media) — the Cleveland was the way to go. They might have had the dynasty in Cleveland — check out who was on BB’s staff — but Art Modell was beyond awful.

The Patriots/Jets border war stuff, though captivating, was on a certain level pitiful. Loudmouth tough guy wannabes on both sides, but neither team had won jackshit. The Jets had one 30 yr old Lombardi, the Pats several losing SB appearances, and I’m sure the recent one drove the Jets nuts. Parcells won, B.B. won, but the executives and owners had accomplished nothing.

Parcells was a bad guy with that resignation maneuver. Kraft should have recognized earlier that heavy compensation for B.B. would be due. Kraft demanded the same compensation when Parcells bolted.

Gary Myers says the same thing as Francesa: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/giants-blundered-ray-handley-hire-launched-bill-belichick-career-article-1.345698

Giants co-owner John Mara, who joined the team full-time right after Belichick left for Cleveland following the Super Bowl 17 years ago, said he was not aware that Young wanted Handley over Belichick, but acknowledged, "I know George had some issues with Belichick."

...

It was common knowledge around the Giants during the 1990 season that Handley, who was Parcells' running backs coach and clock management guru, was going to be Young's choice over Belichick and Tom Coughlin, who was in his third year as the Giants' receivers coach.
This old SI article during the dark days of Belichick's in Cleveland quotes Young as saying, "He's not a great personality person." So I think there is something there.

The most interesting part of the Two Bills for me was Kraft calling out the league office for manipulating behind the scenes to get Parcells to the Jets. Deflategate is never mentioned, but when he says something like that was the first time that he got the impression that the league office wasn’t pure and was playing favorites you know that’s what he’s hinting at.

Parcells called Kraft because he knew BB was gone either way and figured he might as well get something for him from the Pats. It wasn’t motivated by any kind of affection for BB. He’s really a loathsome human being and you know it kills him inside that nobody thinks of him as being on Belichick’s level as a coach.

I'm watching the NFL network. Josh McCown is on and being interviewed. I don't think I've ever seen him before. He looks like Jesse Plemons mixed with a Backstreet Boy.

This is, predictably, excellent. Straight from the jump:

"Do you fly private, every time?"
Edelman: "No, dude. I'm Jewish."

When Jules described Ernie Adams as having "a photogenic memory", PFTCommenter started grinning and clearly wanted to jump in with something sarcastic, and just decided to go with his better judgment

I watched a bunch of the NFL films stuff and the 30f30 the last few days.
But today, I will watch almost nothing about the game until 6 pm or so. Been like this for the last 10 years or so. 99 precent useless, and not willing to hunt for the 1 percent like a pig looking for truffles. Am I the only one not gorging on SB to fill the time after the Celtics game ends?

No I feel the exact same way. I may watch the game of the week Falcons or Seattle game, or perhaps Do Your Job or something like that, but will definitely not be putting on NBC until around 6. Maybe not even till around 6:30, I can't stand the pre-game.
