Based on their recent track record, I fully expect them to get completely blind sided by the results of the investigation when it's revealed that Roenike had a cybernetic eye installed which he used to control a fleet of sign stealing micro-drones.(and I'm assuming the Sox got a heads up)
Dude, you were told that in secrecy. Now the next manager will probably be the winner of the Boston Marathon.Based on their recent track record, I fully expect them to get completely blind sided by the results of the investigation when it's revealed that Roenike had a cybernetic eye installed which he used to control a fleet of sign stealing micro-drones.
Just quoting you for posterity. Because you're likely correct.Based on their recent track record, I fully expect them to get completely blind sided by the results of the investigation when it's revealed that Roenike had a cybernetic eye installed which he used to control a fleet of sign stealing micro-drones.

Yep. If they think that Cora's getting a one or two year suspension, and they want him back, Roenicke's the best fit. It's not as though he had any other expectations of a better job this yearThis is probably the best move under the circumstances. Barring an unexpected 'Morgan Magic'-like run, they can move on at the end of the season and bring in Bloom's choice as a long-term guy and let him staff the coaching positions. The 2020 season is hardly going to be successful or not because Roenicke is the manager.
A deep solemn bow to you, sir.Based on their recent track record, I fully expect them to get completely blind sided by the results of the investigation when it's revealed that Roenike had a cybernetic eye installed which he used to control a fleet of sign stealing micro-drones.
Based on my observations over many years of being a baseball fan, having good players seems to be more important than who the manager is. Joe Torre was a great manager with the Yankees and a terrible one with the Mets.Completely uninspired choice, but he's a seat warmer. So pretty much par for the course with this team.
Continuity in RF would have been better...A deep solemn bow to you, sir.
I like the move. Continuity in this case is good.
Gibby is reputedly a good guy, but he's not a good manager - hard pass please.
I look at him as better than Dusty Baker. They were not going to get their manager of the future this offseason, so it's the least disruptive outcome. Even if he overperforms, I'm not too worried that the Sox will feel compelled to hand over the reigns long term unless they win the World Series or something.Completely uninspired choice, but he's a seat warmer. So pretty much par for the course with this team.
Hey if he gets hired, I wonder if Shea Hillenbrand is available for the coaching staff?John Gibbons? Ugh.
Gibbons ??????????? He would be the ultimate placeholder . The very definition of a JAG manager.Update from MLBTR:
10:57am: Adding another layer of intrigue, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic tweets that the Red Sox also interviewed former Blue Jays manager John Gibbons earlier this week. Gibbons interviewed with the Astros before they hired Dusty Baker as well.
10:47am: The Red Sox issued the following statement in response to the report regarding Roenicke (Twitter link via MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo): “Our managerial search is not yet completed. We will comment at the completion of the search.”
That, of course, doesn’t mean that Roenicke won’t ultimately be named manager, although it’s nevertheless notable that the team felt compelled to issue a statement without being prompted.
That was just to make us THRILLED with Roenicke.John Gibbons? Ugh.
Appropriate because the role of Red Sox manager is probably comparable to the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher this year.
It worked. That was just to make us THRILLED with Roenicke.
"May" count more? Don't sell yourself short, @Teachdad46!Not jumping for joy here, but I bet the players will be happy and that may count more .
I’d be more concerned if he didn’t know than if he did.I guess I'm a little skeptical he could have been completely oblivious to the cheating. The manager knew, and the players had to know (at least some of them). He had no idea?
Is this a serious question? Is Jonny Miller a life long fan that hangs out at the door to greet players or something?
"Terry, if the end of the world comes tomorrow, how good is it to exit with a victory tonight?" Miller asked. "Is this a serious question?
It's a few years old now, but this article covers it pretty well. Then there's this one from last spring.
Yeah, I don't think I've ever heard of him. Thanks for the links. Is this a serious question?

To be fair to Gibby, nobody has better Shrug, "Not sure how we can win" press conferences.Gibbons ??????????? He would be the ultimate placeholder . The very definition of a JAG manager.
Usually the first question at every post-game with the manager.Yeah, I don't think I've ever heard of him. Thanks for the links.
Ah okay, I did know that guy. Just hadn't seen him in that setting I guess.Usually the first question at every post-game with the manager.
Unlikely he'll ever come back, though I had similar thoughts. No matter what comes out, to the uninformed casual fanbase he is always going to be the mastermind of the cheatin' Astros and even MLB telling the Sox to put a quarter in the bad sportsmanship jar (which sounds to be about as harsh a penalty as the team is going to incur based on recent reports) is still going to cause a lot of fans (smart or otherwise) to discount the 2018 successes as nothing more than the result of Patriots-esque cheating (i.e., being better at identifying things to exploit thanks to tireless video review, to the point where it has to be cheating since no one else can seem to figure out how to have the same success by being honest), which is already happening despite MLB telling everyone to pump the brakes. Bringing him back, even mostly exonerated from a Boston perspective will still send the message that the organization may be complicit in unseemly activities. There was talk of him being moved to a front office role at some point and it wouldn't shock me if that happens. Will he never manage again? Tough to say, but it seems unlikely he'll manage this year or next at the very least. It would be very cool if Cora can come back. The new info that he wasn't the mastermind behind the system should help. Probably not happening in 2020 though.
There is no other reason to call him the "interim" manager unless they are planning to bring Cora back.So Roenicke gets the "interim" manager tag: https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2020/02/11/red-sox-name-ron-roenicke-interim-manager/kcAuAtHvvTrSi4XDLyU1pI/story.html?event=event25
Does this mean that Cora comes back at some point?
