Rooting for the Astors in the ALCS was like I what I imagine rooting for Stalin in WWII was like; they're both abhorrent on many levels but still better than the alternative. But now that the Battle of Stalingrad is over go Phillies.

Heard of Hoye, Iassogna, and Barksdale. Gibson and Baker sound familiar. I think Baker might be one of the better young umps out there, if I'm thinking of the right guy. Don't know Porter or Hoberg, who hopefully does not have to see the field.

I don't think anyone ranks Wally and Mr. Met highly. Although Mr (and Mrs) Met's accompaniment with Timmy Trumpet this year was pretty good

I watched every pitch of the 1980 NLCS between the Phillies and Astros. The deciding game was an all-time classic, as the Phillies won 8-7 in 10 innings.

The game was on MLB Network this week and I watched it for the first time.

Nolan Ryan blew it. 5-2 lead in the 8th inning and facing the bottom of the Phillies order. The single Bob Boone hit back at Ryan was tough but Ryan got a glove on it and could have made a play. Then the bunt single and the walk to Rose to force in a run. Left a mess for the bullpen to try and clean up, which they didn’t.

Where is this going? When I started watching baseball, it was 3 days rest between starts for pitchers, then it got to 4. Is 5 on the horizon?
