Those are perfectly fine numbers, I just think they got a guy that seems taylor made for Brady's game and I don't know how he'll play to Cam's strengths (which last year was basically just throwing the ball deep). I think him and Agholor complement each other very well.View: https://twitter.com/AaronWilson_NFL/status/1371699712718430213?s=20
Looks like a pretty reasonable contract.
You need to look at the context of what the player does well and project to what they can do. Bourne's signing is more of a projection that his skillset will translate to better numbers in the Patriots' scheme than the Shanahan scheme.Looking into it a little bit further, I was kind of surprised by this:
Byrd last year: 47 catches for 604 yards, 12.9 yards per catch, 1 TD
Bourne last year: 49 catches for 667 yards, 13.6 yards per catch, 2 TDs
They have different skillsets, but I don't really think this particular move is much of an upgrade (even their 2019 stats were incredibly close, TDs aside).
That IS interesting - had been thinking of Bourne as a better Byrd, so those numbers are almost comically close. I've been meaning to cross reference Bourne's game log with Aiyuk and Deebo to see if his best games were when their frequent injuries made him the WR1 by default. In my head Byrd had a lot more opportunity given their places on their respective depth charts, as one of Aiyuk or Samuel was health most games, but it's totally possible the stats don't bear that out (and I am admittedly too work busy/life lazy to look right now).Looking into it a little bit further, I was kind of surprised by this:

He’s also a couple years younger and will play well as a run blocker. Damiere Byrd is a productive player, but he is unsurprisingly a non entity as a run blocker given that he’s giving up like 3-4 inches and 20 plus pounds to Bourne. You need to look at the context of what the player does well and project to what they can do. As I stated earlier, I think Bourne's skillset complements Agholor's really well and he seems like the type of receiver that Brady would have liked, so maybe he'll be a great fit in this offense. Now, I know Agholor is the one replacing Byrd and he'll probably be better in that role, and Bourne will likely take snaps from Harry and the offense will be better overall, no question. I just think my initial reaction to this signing was a little more positive than Bourne's Byrd-like resume should have indicated (but it's short money, so who cares). You need to look at the context of what the player does well and project to what they can do. The real money on the deal is not much, so I think he'll be able to earn the incentives he has. I think Bourne is going to do a lot of the things that Edelman does well.As I stated earlier, I think Bourne's skillset complements Agholor's really well and he seems like the type of receiver that Brady would have liked, so maybe he'll be a great fit in this offense. Yeah, but isn't that Meyers? That's the thing, don't Meyers and Bourne have really similar strengths and weaknesses to their games? The real money on the deal is not much, so I think he'll be able to earn the incentives he has. Meyers can take the Amendola role of a little bit inside, but versatile enough to run more downfield routes. It certainly does not hurt to have both Meyers and Bourne at the QB's disposal.Yeah, but isn't that Meyers? Very small sample size. Deebo and Aiyuk were both out for weeks 1, 9, and 17. Bourne was also out week 9 (covid list for Bourne and aiyuk). Weeks 1 and 17 combined Bourne put up 7 catches on 11 targets for 110 and 0. He averaged 3.3 receptions per game for the season, so right in line, but did have more yards than normal. Again, sss. That IS interesting - had been thinking of Bourne as a better Byrd, so those numbers are almost comically close. So who’s the next welker, Bourne or Byrd?Wes Welker 2006: 100T 67R 687Yd 1Td.
Looking at Agholor, I feel like he's the next Donte Stallworth. So who's the next Moss? OBJ? AJ Green? So who’s the next welker, Bourne or Byrd?
I have no idea. Just saying that Welker was that Welker in that environment and then a completely different Welker in a different environment. So who’s the next welker, Bourne or Byrd?
