Well, given that he was a candidate for release by the Bills even before his DUI as he reported out of shape, unless he spent the last few months working his way into shape, it's hard to see him as anything more than, at best, JAG.

He was really good in Seattle, and played well enough in Buffalo that they signed him to a contract extension right before hiring Schwartz. Wasn't a fit at all there for that new defense.

Of course, he's been on a bunch of teams in not that long a period of time which means this probably won't work at all.

If it means less Casey Walker...it's a good thing. This series doesn't hammer him but he was atrocious against the Jets.

He's actually a big help at this time.  Him on the team would allow BB to move Wilfork around the line freely.

If he's, you know, good and not a fat tub of goo.

Really? Just my eyeballing it, but I thought he was mediocre which for that game put him above most of the other Pats -- on many runs he seemed to be the only Pats defender who was holding up. Nothing I'd swear by, but was my impression.

Lots more about the run defense all this week...

...but Walker's strength is getting upfield against 1-on-1 blocks. He got run past a lot and while he does get after the QB pretty well, he's worse than Chris Jones against the run, IMO.

If he's an unmovable tub of goo who takes up 2 blockers then I'll take it.

I guess the question would be, if he could be that kind of guy, why has he been unemployed since late August?

no matter how big he is off he isn't in since kind of shape the 2 blockers will start moving him.

Branch would have been a perennial all-pro if the light had ever turned on for him. It didn't. There were flashes here and there, but he's been released three times. For a guy who was the 33rd overall pick seven years ago, that's not a great sign. Some of it is fitness and some of it is discipline. Maybe this time.

I think Branch knew Scwartz was going to demote him in his new scheme, stayed away from workouts, and was an inevitable cut due to his salary. But just before hiring Schwartz they gave him a $3.1 M signing bonus after a solid 2013 season.
He was quite good at tackle in Seattle next to Mebane in their 4-3, and switched easily to DE in the Bills' 3-4; BB can put him at DE in a base 3-4, and then slide him over to DT in the nickel for passing downs. Could be a real nice pick up.

Maybe a trade is imminent and some roster shuffling will be needed?
Reiss was speculating that since the Denver game will be played mostly in sub that they're waiting to sign him.

I wonder if it's a thing where he still hasn't passed the physical/conditioning test but is getting closer
