I don’t know if he will bring anything at this point, but I still love it. One of my favorite Patriots of the entire run.

Funny to me we don't let the D guy leave the visit without a contract despite already having a very strong D....yet lacking for weapons on offense we let everyone wall out the door

I mean, my guess would be he's getting a whole lot less money than the offensive players they had in.

Love the guy, have no clue what he has in the tank at this point but hey, can't hurt.
I think he has plenty left in the tank, but only time will tell.

When healthy in Detroit, he played very well - not to his Patriots free agency level, but a very solid all around player. The problem is that he was paid on potential. Detroit was hoping he'd take another step in his pass rushing ability which - coupled with his great run defense - would have made him a top edge rusher in the league. He didn't. He played very much like he did with the Patriots, but with worse coaching and talent around him, his ceiling dipped a little. Coupled with the injuries, he wasn't worth the high price tag.

He only got a few games in with Miami before hurting his foot.

He's only 29 years old. If he plays the way he did with Detroit - 80% of the pro bowl level he did in New England - he's going to have a great year.

Oh yeah. As long as he doesn't get injured (again).

I think those offensive guys have more options. Flowers was looking at being out of the league.

I still think he can add something. He's kind of the other end of the spectrum from Judon. A lot fewer flashy, impact plays, but solid all around. Hopefully that will free up some other parts of the defense to make plays.

2 open spots on the 90, no reported other options, considerably less money, zero guarantee he makes the 53, didn't choose another team's non-existent offer, injuries derailed him lately.

Aside from the drive by hot take, same thing as Hopkins.

Mike Reiss was on T&R this morning and his take was that Flowers would be a depth signing, nothing more.

I really wouldn't compare a visit from Trey Flowers with the previous visits of Elliot and Hopkins.

They're not in the same stratosphere.

A lot of similarities between Flowers and Uche, in terms of their first 3 seasons. Both guys did very little in Y1; Flowers was better than Uche in Y2, but Uche better in Y3. Similar sized: Flowers a bit thicker, Uche a bit taller.

Maybe Flowers can take Uche under his wing a bit, help train him more as a run-stopper/setter of the edge.

In his third year Flowers played 85%+ of the snaps when he was active. He was a key piece of the defense while Uche was exclusively deployed as a situational player last year. The sack production pops, but Flowers was a much more important part of this team in Year 3 than Uche.

Fair points. Which is why I am hoping that TF can help JU become a more complete player (as he himself was)

I don't know if Uche has the frame to hold up as an edge setter and Bill values that a whole lot on early downs. Bringing Flowers in to me means spelling out Judon and keeping Uche in the role he excelled at last year. That would be very valuable.

Flowers hasn't played meaningful football for over a year (65 snaps, 4 tackles, 1 solo for MIA last year before his injury), so his conditioning or capabilities at this point could surely be questionable enough to not want to run him out during the preseason. For $50K in cap space though, stashing him on PUP/Reserve until week 5 seems very wise. That way, he's Uche, Wise, or *gulp* Judon insurance.

I think you're right on the conditioning part. I bet he didn't pass the conditioning test, so it will be officially PUP until he does.

I think the tell is that the designation was used immediately and BB knew he wouldn't pass the his physical so sign him to very short money, stash him on PUP, let Flowers get into game shape for two months and then use him a rotational DL. I think he has something left in the tank and can be a very useful situational player and depth piece.
