It costs more to cut him on the cap than to keep him (2.8 vs 1.9 million). I'm betting he did something stupid.Guessing he is not progressing from his surgery and this is a pure injury issue
He didn't even have surgery for the quad injury he had this season, though, right? Given the timing and the cap hit, my money is on this being something behavioral.Guessing he is not progressing from his surgery and this is a pure injury issue
That is an interesting thought especially as it relates to Belichick's recent comments about being an outlier.Rich Hill @PP_Rich_Hill
Patriots definitely going back to the 3-4 base front, IMO. Easley and Jones were two players locked into a 4-3 front.
http://www.patspulpit.com/2016/4/8/11391970/patriots-hc-bill-belichick-names-the-greatest-qb-of-all-time-and"One of the things we've tried to do is to be a little bit of an outlier in some respects. When I came to the Patriots in 2000, as the head coach, we played a 3-4 defense, and we only had really two teams in the NFL- us and the Pittsburgh Steelers- that ran the 3-4. We had quite a bit of success, won three super bowls in four years, and by 2005 half the league was playing a 3-4 defense.
"So when I came here trying to find a nose tackle, like Ted Washington, it was easy because nobody else wanted them. Five years later, if we were looking for a nose tackle, there was probably five other teams in the draft ahead of us, so we've kind of had to find different players, different schemes- whether it be tight end based offenses, or whether it be going from an odd to an even front defense, or whatever it happened to be- just trying to find different ways to capitalize on the talent that's available.
It costs more this year.It costs more to cut him on the cap than to keep him (2.8 vs 1.9 million). I'm betting he did something stupid.
But if it's just a matter of using the 3-4 more often, then they would have tried to trade him, like they did for Chandler Jones. Surely someone would have given a conditional 7th rounder at least.I don't know how to post a tweat. This is my first try.
That is an interesting thought especially as it relates to Belichick's recent comments about being an outlier.
So the guy was being a douche with his rehab? Nice work, Embiid.“@tomecurran: Regarding Easley, there is no one incident that led to release. Call it philosophical differences on following injury programs, etc”
He had a $1M guaranteed salary for 2016. They may save some of this, depending on the off-set language in his contract. Otherwise they pay the whole thing. It costs more this year.
It saves them 1.8M in salary, and 450K in roster bonuses over the next two years.
If they don't think he's physically capable, this is a smart move.
Typical Krafts! More worried about cash flow than competing! He had a $1M guaranteed salary for 2016. They may save some of this, depending on the off-set language in his contract. Otherwise they pay the whole thing.
He had a $1M non-guaranteed salary and $415k non-guaranteed roster bonus for next year. This is what they actually save, though the savings would be the same had they kept him for 2016 and cut him a year from now.
Yeah but Wheatley had wrist issues and Ras-I dowling had the same shit Samuel Jackson had in unbreakable. So would you trade three seconds and a first for Gronk?Win some lose some.
Gronk had back issues.
And Curtis Martin had injury problems in college.Win some lose some.
Gronk had back issues.
We can stop speculating! Ben Volin cracked the case! What a moron.
Not sure you can call Spikes disappointing. From a personality stand point sure. But he was a pretty good defender against the run.So, the list of disappointing Gator picks are:
Dom Easley
Brandon Spikes
Jermaine Cunningham
The Guy In Jail
Guss Scott
Chad Jackson
Tony George
Any others? I was looking at 4th round and higher.
Rex Ryan has already signed Easley. Just to be safe.
And had that nice INT in the AFCCG that was subsequently marginalized by Brady's dumb decision to force a deep ball to Matthew Slater into triple coverage. Not sure you can call Spikes disappointing. From a personality stand point sure. But he was a pretty good defender against the run.
http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/patriots/2016/04/13/patriots-release-dominique-easley/VxfcDYPp0ieEh0mDVBRp5H/story.htmlEasley’s relationship with the Patriots got off on the wrong foot when he arrived to their rookie minicamp shortly after the 2014 draft and couldn’t participate — not because of his knee injury, but because of injuries to his ankles, arms, and wrists sustained when bitten by his pet pitbull two weeks before the draft. The dog, which weighed more than 100 pounds, bit two other people plus an animal care worker and had to be euthanized in Palm Beach County, Fla.
Easley had not told any teams about these injuries prior to the draft, and the Patriots were not happy when they found out, as the injuries set him back in his ACL rehab
Demps netted Blount. Granted, Blount wasn't worth much at the time, but overall that signing was worth it just from Blount's production.Jeff Demps worth a mention as a Gator bust? Late round/UDFA, but only because of the dual track career. Still, he also sucked at football. Obviously not original Pats picks, but Tebow and Bostic can be lumped in as ex- (or soon to be ex-) Pats... Urban, you suck!
This is silly. LGBT was one of the more liked players on the team. Now, if you compare Easley & Volin, that makes a lot of sense.@benvolin 1h1 hour ago #Patriots teammate on news of Easley release: “Saw that coming. Injuries and locker room cancer.”
@blakemurphy7 If #Pats players are saying Dom Easley was a locker room cancer for a team with LeGarrette Blount on it, you know it must have been bad.
Why? It's not a shady place with happy endings or a luxury spa day. It's a therapeutic session that many players go through to rehab injuries or maintain well being and it's with a team employed staff member who could likely be doing something more useful with another player instead Of standing around waiting for someone to show up. There's nothing at all strange about expecting someone to be accountable and show up when they say they will.I find it strange that the source is complaining because the guy didnt show up for a massage session.
He could have a completely valid reasons for having missed an appointment, and I think it comes across as petty for a source from within the Patriots to complain to the press anonymously about something that is both so specific and so small (in the grand scheme of things). Why?
