Jed Hoyer, Josh Byrnes...Mike Hazen?...at some point, shouldn't they try a different baseball ops strategy...for whatever reason, the Red Sox alums haven't worked out in SD...

As for Hazen's competition:

Daigo Fujiwara ‏@DaigoFuji 36m
Rooting for Kim Ng to be picked as next GM of Padres. First Asian GM in MLB history! (oh, and female, too.)

I feel like I've been hearing this for almost 10 years, going back to when Colletti was hired. Hope it works out for her (especially so we can keep Hazen a little longer).

Yes to this all the way.  She is really smart, has paid her dues and would be awesome.  The whole Asian woman thing would last about a day and then she would turn that thing around in San Diego.  She is the real deal.

I would hope Mike Hazen was in BOS, given his team was playing at Fenway...

The padres problems run WAY deeper than just a good GM.

What are you referring to?

New, deep-pocketed ownership? Check.

Newish, downtown stadium? Check.

New TV deal and no longer issues with Cable providers? Check.

Their current issues mainly stem from a weird ownership transfer between John Moores and Jeff Moorad which got hung up completely and eventually resulted in current ownership. During that period Moorad was still owner, and Byrnes was his guy. How empowered he was to actually make decisions considering the state of limbo the ownership was in, is in question. They've made some bad moves(Gyrko signing, though it won't kill them), and some questionable decisions(Signing Seth Smith which also won't kill them) but they finally have a clean slate to move forward. Throw in an 11th ranked Prospect System (#3 last year and hurt by injuries) and they aren't in terrible shape.

If they can draft and develop they will attract fans. San Diego loves the Padres, it's just that right now they hate them and with good reason. They will go if it's a winning ball club.

I agree that San Diego will support a winning team but it's not so much becasue they love the Padres (this is a football town)....San Diegans are frontrunners....Pads start winning they'll draw.

The problem isn't with ownership per se but with some folks in other leadership positions. Folks that have been there a long time like Mike Dee (who actually was here for a long time, left then came back) and Ron Fowler (who's been here since the 90's). Continuity is a good thing when what you are doing is working...not so much  when you suck for a long time.

Then there's the clubs horrid history with developing those young players.
