Cuzitt wrote a nice article for the .com about position players coming in to pitch  and how they did. The latest to pick up a win was Cole Sturgeon of the Sea Dogs. They lose more than they win, but I was surprised how many have won.

Thanks to Baseball-Reference, we know that 110 non-pitchers have won at least a game in the history of baseball, out of 525 non-pitchers who have made appearances. Looking further into the data, we can see that MLB is currently in an unusual cycle, as three non-pitchers have wins in the past five seasons.

Thanks very much for sharing.

I have to wonder what sorts of directives the Major League clubs give the Minor League clubs about using position players as pitchers.
While certainly the Minor League teams want to win games, and can also just work themselves into situations where they don't have other options in general (as is often the case), would imagine that no one would want a promising non-pitching prospect to come in to pitch, and end up injuring themselves.

Sadly work is blocking links to the .com, so this might be covered already. At the MLB level, I wonder if the increase in pitcher wins is not so much unusual as a function of the same dynamics that are causing the uptick in extra inning games. Since low-scoring environments are correlated with a higher likelihood of extra inning games, I'd guess that there are more games which are lasting to the point where managers run out of relievers and bring in a position pitchers to pitch in situations where they can get the win, rather than just using them in mop-up duty.
