Finally! it seems the only games I get here in LA on Sat, are LAD or LAA games unless its a NYY/BOS series. Now I can actually watch Red Sox games, with my MLB.tv account and not have to find some random stream

Not here
So I don't even have to use a proxy?

I think I'm getting lightheaded.

I'm switching from Extra Innings on DirecTV to MLB.tv this year because it's cheaper and has all those extra goodies.

Goddamn, the season can't start soon enough.

Sounds like there are still territory-related blackouts...

Those Fox Saturday games that are not subject to regional blackout will be subject to the general home territory blackout restrictions listed above (under Regular Season Blackouts in the U.S. and Canada). If you are an MLB.TV Subscriber in an area subject to blackout the blacked out game will be available as an archived game approximately 90 minutes after the conclusion of the game.

I've had MLB.tv for the past 5 years or so, and I'm pretty excited my Saturday afternoons (when I can watch the most baseball) will now be filled with any Fox broadcasts I want (sans the Boston games). I'm excited. I feel a lot better about that automatic renewal that just his my account a few days ago.

Assuming you have a way of playing it on your TV, MLB.tv is so clearly the best choice over Extra Innings. Maybe it's gotten better but when I had Extra Innings it was a crapshoot as to whether your game would be in HD and rarely would you get both home and away broadcasts. With MLB.tv, pick your broadcast, always high quality, can get rid of the announcers, free MLB app...pretty great deal.

I don't fully understand the blackout rules and what this change means.  Say you live in NYC and the Yankees are on Fox on a Sat. afternoon.  The Sox are also playing on Sat. afternoon.  If this person has EI, will he/she be able to watch the Sox game?

Assuming they aren't playing the Yankees, yes. It used to be that regardless of location, you were stuck watching whatever game was broadcast on FOX in your area and all other games were blacked out. Now it's just like the standard every-night blackouts, where only local games are blacked out. Still isn't perfect as some locations without obvious local teams get screwed by the blackout maps, but still a big improvement.

Thanks.  If they're playing the Yankees I'd assume it will be on either Fox or YES anyway.

I can't believe it took this long to make this change.

When I last had EI, I generally had my choice of HD home and away feed. The exceptions were for games that were broadcast on terrestrial TV stations, because EI didn't have a way to tap that signal.

If your ISP has a bandwidth cap, you will surely run into it if you watch an HD baseball game on MLB.tv every night.

Maybe DirecTV just sucks then. I was always blown away by how few channels they had for EI.

If I had a bandwidth cap I wouldn't be able to function as a person, partially cause I work in IT but also just because I couldn't. I can't even imagine the horror of that.

I had DirecTV EI.  The selection was great when I last had it (2010 or 2011).

Comcast used to have a 250GB/mo cap. They are doing trials now on various more "flexible" caps described here. I figure they want a nice neutral-sounding way to screw Netflix and MLB.TV customers.
