Probably won't happen for a week or more, but if La'el Collins is cleared of any involvement in his ex-girlfriend's death we may get a better idea what a 1st round talent is worth in the open market.

How many roster spots do the Pats have open for these guys? There is a limit, right, and I heard this morning the Pats are closer to it than usual.

But cap constraints. How many teams have lots of room?

before signing the drafted players 9 teams had $15M+ , 5 teams had $20M+ and the Jags had over $40M.

Edit- Nattysez deleted it, but he correctly pointed out that I forgot the rookie pool.
He's not getting a significant contract unless a team high in a round decides not to sign one of their early round picks.
Likely he takes a 1 year deal.

Have to figure someone would have taken an flyer in the 7th if the NFL didn't think he was going to get charged.

They don't know, that's why I prefaced it with if he is cleared.
Also his agent said he wouldn't sign if drafted after the 3rd. In that case he gets to re-enter the draft next year. If he goes undrafted he is barred from entering next year's draft and becomes a FA, giving teams time to wait and see what happens in terms of legal issues without the chance he declines to sign costing you a pick.

We won't find that out.

As an undrafted free agent, he's only eligible to sign a three year deal, has to be exactly three years, at minimum salaries.

He can receive a bonus, but teams are restricted to spending less than 100K total in bonuses to their entire undrafted free agent class.

And unless they change the rules, he's ineligible to re-enter next years' draft.

If this kid is innocent, he just got screwed.

Good article on his situation here. http://overthecap.com/quick-thoughts-on-lael-collins-re-entering-the-draft/

Ah, if that's true then that's why he was undrafted. I was going to suggest "Well, find a way to give him 1st round money one way or another if he gets cleared" but I doubt the NFL wants to set that precedent.

Rice WR Jordan Taylor signs with Denver per @MikeKlis. Tall guy who played mostly in the slot.

EDIT: Forgot that Taylor was a college teammate of Klein Kubiak - that's right, Gary's son. Also a WR. No doubt Koobs is familiar with Taylor.

Devin Gardner has Edelman's agent. He's 6'4 and in 2012 had 16 catches for 266 yards and 4 touchdowns.

He's upset that a really good and likable player from his alma mater is going to a city/team that he hopes will literally burn to the ground.

Bobby Vardaro/BC/North ReadingMA/Andover OT to Vikings.

He's young, had a decent combine, good YAC and screen skills, and was supposedly limited by inconsistent QB play. He looks like a slightly slower version of Emmanuel Sanders in the video I watched.

Equally unappealing is that he's going to have a Yalie as a teammate (ewww), as Tyler Varga signed over there.
And the entire camp will probably be a Harvard vs. Yale thing for the both of them.

The 718
Varga had some ridiculously good games for Yale this year.  Would not be surprised to see him stick somewhere.
