Better, sure. Better enough for what it would cost, probably not.
But I'd think BB would try to sign Weddle for future years, and if not you have to calculate the compensation pick.
If Weddle gets top dollar to leave NE, the comp pick negates from (although perhaps not equal to) the pick NE gives up to retain him now.
But as dc posts, I'm looking at these opportunities to improve the team (and Weddle definitely does, while I'm not sure if someone like Mankins do) and think there aren't that many options.
Every contender is looking for a good CB help, Pats' biggest need. Sean Smith is far, far from getting a Revis or a Talib. Given the level of compensation for Weddle (I think it'll be lower than one may expect), he may be the best value & one of the better players to acquire, period.
