My home WiFi is weird.... Any ideas?

I've been having an on-going issue with my home wifi, and I figure that if anyone knows a solution, it'll be here.

First, I'm not big network guy, so there's a decent chance I'll be explaining something wrong, and an equal chance I won't understand the answer, but I'll ask anyway.

We have an xFinity cable modem/wireless router (single unit).  It works reasonably well for most things.  (3 laptops, a Wii, 2 cell phones, and a couple Kindles)  Three devices won't connect to it however.... an Android phone, an iPhone, and iPad.

My field-expedient work-around a while ago was to daisy-chain an old router to the xFinity router, so two different SSIDs show up, but both connect to the same source.  This has worked okay for awhile, as those 3 devices would connect to that second SSID.

Today, the old router seemed to lose it's WPA settings, and I can't get into it to try to reset them.

Really, I'd rather just have one SSID, that I could connect everything to, if anyone has any ideas on how to force connections.  Without those 3 devices connecting, is keeping the second router the best option?  Any ideas on how to reaccess it to secure that SSID?

Thanks

Brand and model of the 2nd router ? Virtually all routers have a factory reset switch, in almost all cases a pinhole on the side or bottom, with the modem powered on, you use a paperclip to push this in and hold it in generally for close to a minute, this resets the router...most older routers default to the name "admin" and password is often "password" but give us the make and model # and we can tell you. If it doesn't reset...it's probably toast.

Does the one you want to use have the option of spitting out at both 2.4 and 5.0? Thee could be other things but the most common cause of this is trying to ride 5.0 with devices that don't want to

It says it supports both G and N, but the only channel I see is 2.4

It's a Belkin, and has a reset button.  I tried that, and it came back on, but with no security settings.  It's 'working' now, in that you can connect to it, but only as an open network.  And I can't navigate to 192.168.2.1

Ultimately, I'd rather just have the one, and eliminate this patch.
