This round starts with the the Merseyside Derby as the early game (odd choice)

Liverpool line-up: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Fabinho, Elliott, Carvalho; Salah, Nunez, Diaz.

Subs: Adrian, Milner, Firmino, Jota, Robertson, Arthur, Matip, Bajcetic, Phillips.

Yikes , could be a lot of goals in this one with that midfield - for both sides. Arthur makes the bench - no sign of Curtis Jones

Everton: Pickford; Patterson, Coady, Tarkowski, Mykolenko; McNeil, Davies, Onana, Iwobi, Gordon; Maupay.

Fabinho has some work to do today...the youngsters seem to be a bit more attack minded than his usual co-workers in the middle

If Anthony Taylor adds on all of the time about to be wasted this one might not finish until tomorrow.

Over/under on Gordon flops? And how does that compare to the number of touches he gets?

This is a surprising line up from Klopp. Let’s see…

too much physical play, no whistles to start again.

Everton pressing quick and hard.

My legs would pop out of socket if I twisted my hips like Maupay just did. Clever pass.

This isn’t going to work defensively. I’m not confident VVD is himself, Gomez is a wildcard, Fab isn’t fit, TAA/Tsimikas aren’t strong defensively, and the rest of the midfield is attack-minded.

British authorities like to schedule heated local rivalries early in the day to keep both sets of fans from getting drunk before kickoff, and thereby potentially getting up to more violent mischief. That's not such an issue with the Merseyside derby (I don't think)...but it's certainly the reason Celtic and Rangers kicked off at 12:30 p.m. as well.

Trent sloppy so far except when he cases down a lose ball and one times a pinpoint cross.

A proper first half for a Merseyside Derby, though there’s no rhyme or reason to Taylor’s whistles.

Probably more to do with the domestic TV deal I think. ( not to suggest you’re wrong)

Great stuff. Everton’s window pickups making a big impact. Satisfying to see this side play like this.

But it’s Firmino … this should be interesting
I think there’s a good 4-2-3-1 to be played with Bobby at the 10 behind Nunez, Salah and Diaz on the wings. But there isn’t anyone to pair with Fab in the back now. Maybe Arthur, Henderson when he’s fit…not really confident options.

Pickford continuing his embodiment of Lev Yashin against Liverpool.

Mercifully, Everton decided to splash the cash for Neal Maupay ;)

Iwobi is so tidy. No one on Liverpool has looked as efficient today.

Pefok not in the starting XI or on the bench today. Injury?

It looks like there might be a pretty crazy display on the Waldseite before the game. This stadium is fired up (I’m at the Union-Bayern game).

Given the cleat to Nunez’s shin wasn’t even a foul, I don’t know what a foul or card is anymore.

Pickford just beating out the post for MOTM.

As for the ref/var decisions .. the offside goal wasn’t really close … Coady was a good foot offside. And the VVD/ red card call ... I think the fact it wasn’t a lunge, more of a misplaced poke that saved him.

A long VAR here for a Brentford. I think it’s a foul, but it was part of one of those after-the-kick scrums in the box that never get called.
