MLB Payroll Visualization Chart

I'm no Sabermatrician but I thought this chart I found on Fark.com was an interesting way to look at payroll, past, present and future:

I think we can all figure out who the box in blue that has a contract thru 2021 might be.

Very cool. We all know that salaries have gone through the roof over the past decade, but it was still impressive to see Baltimore have the highest payroll in 1998 at just around $70 million. Mussina and Palmeiro were the highest paid players at $7 million apiece. The 2014 Yankees could field a starting 9 that all make more than that.

Or, how about the 2016 Angels.  They're on the hook for $97 million for just Pujols, Hamilton, Weaver and Wilson.

Alex Rodriguez + Mark Teixeira + Derek Jeter + Curtis Granderson, even subtracting from the time that they played, gives you $70 million + right there.
