Bleier, Schreiber, Fernandez & Shugart pitched a scoreless inning each.

I'd put Arias & WUILLIAMS higher on their respective lists, but not bad shoutouts overall.

This looks like a serious outlier. The Reading starter seems like an organizational filler type - yesterday was his season high for Ks (10 of the 16), and he's 4-4 with a 5.45 ERA as a 27 yo in AA. Probably just an off night for the prospect brigade.

JM3, thanks for keeping this thread going, it's definitely a summer bright spot!

Several of those guys have had more than their share of rough nights lately, but it's a growing process.

Thx, it's my pleasure!

Pierre is starting to hit after a super slow start. 7-12 with 4 doubles, a walk & a HBP in his last 4 games.

FCL game was suspended in the 5th due to rain.

Pierre was 2-2 with a triple & a run.

Luis Cohen came in after the Altavilla open & pitched 3 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts, allowing 2 hits & no walks.

FCL Sox winning 3-0. I assume they'll resume the game tomorrow & then play another.

DSL Red lost 5-2.

Not a great start for Henrique, although he hit my favorite # pretty hard:

3 IP
3 hits
3 runs
3 earned runs
3 strikeouts
3 losses on the season
3.65 ERA

Andruw Musett & Franklin Arias each had triples.

YOEY was 1-2 with a double & 2 walks.

Sox Prospects hasn't Tweeted the projected starter stuff (or anything else yet today), so I guess I'll do it myself:

AAA 6:35 p.m. - Worcester (Lamet)
AA 6:45 p.m. - Portland (Gambrell)
A+ 7:00 p.m. - Greenville (TBD - I'm rooting for Perales)
A 6:05 p.m. - Salem (Paez)

Order of excitement:

1) Greenville TBD - I'll take a small % chance of Perales over almost every other option.

2) Lamet is kind of fascinating just due to the pedigree, even if he's almost certainly not going to have magically solved all his problems in the last week.

3) Paez is an interesting prospect. Most of their young prospect arms are dominant stuff type guys, but Paez seems to get by on control - 31 strikeouts & 8 walks over 43.1 IP & 10 starts.

In his last 2 starts he has pitched 10 scoreless innings, allowing 7 hits & 1 walk, & only recording 3 strikeouts. Will be interesting to see if he's figured something out. He doesn't turn 20 until January.

4) Gambrell should probably be higher on this list as he's had a real nice season, including pitching well since being promoted to Portland (3.75 ERA in 9 starts after 4.88 in 6 starts for Greenville). But for some reason he just doesn't excite me much. Probably because he turns 26 in November?

I will stop arguing about Patrick Corbin & focus any attention I pay on here to the part that makes me happy (which is probably my real motivation for pushing for Corbin).

Anthony's now 2-3 with a double & Bonaci hit a homer.

Castro got his first A+ hit...

& Bastardo got the start, not Perales.

Maybe I should be more into Grant Gambrell. He pitched 6 innings today for Portland & allowed 1 run on 5 hits & 2 walks with 9 strikeouts.

Mayer was 0-3 with 2 k's before being taken out & his average is down to .185...

It's 1-1 in the 8th.

Are teams just going to pitch around him now? Does he need another promotion to get challenged again?
I would guess it's probably a bit early for another promotion.

He had an 18.8% walk rate at Salem & 22.2% at Greenville so far - but it's only been 81 PAs & it seems like they'll probably want to give him at least 200?

He had 43 at Salem last year & 202 this year.

Greenville appears to be on a rain delay in the 7th which I assume means no more Bastardo.

So far he pitched 6 shutout innings, 2 hits, 0 walks & 9 strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 3.79. He was 80 pitches in.

@JM3 I don’t know how you find the time to keep this thread going while also contributing so many excellent and well-researched posts to the main board. Great work, and thanks very much for keeping us all in the loop!

Counterpoint: he wasn’t also simultaneously raking while he was walking all the time in Salem.

If he were promoted to AA for the last month it would be a perfect capper to an awesome year for the farm. Portland would officially be renamed the Thanoses because they’ll have collected all of our prospect infinity stones.

I believe he'll be at about 200 PAs heading into September unless he misses more time?

But I guess that's only a couple weeks. Sure, you have my permission to promote him again if he's still raking like this in mid-August.

I don't think teams really "pitch around" guys in the minors that much. Winning isn't the most important thing down there (as much as the local patrons of these teams would like to believe otherwise), and working on getting guys like Anthony out is just as much an experience for the pitcher facing him as it is for him.

Ryan Miller pitched a 1-2-3 9th with 2 strikeouts to get his 2nd save & secure the Portland win.

Miller is 27 & was acquired this past December in the Minor League Rule 5 draft from the DBacks.

He has a 4.86 ERA in Portland, so not doing quite as much for it org as their other Minor League Rule 5 guy, Joe Jacques.

Nathan Hickey was 2-3 with a walk & the game tying run on the Blaze GWHR.

Pablo Reyes DH'd & went 1-4.

Greenville game is official. Bastardo gets the win & the 6 inning shutout.

Anthony done with that 2-3 with a homer, double & walk.

Greenville wins 5-0.

I think Chaim is lurking in this thread, waiting for you to start using all caps for his name.

Where is a realistic spot for Anthony to be on MLB.com’s prospect list after this year? I know BA had him top 10. If MLB does the same that would be…nice.

Exciting news...

ROMAN is 1-2 so far today.

Some interesting stats...

Side note, this was my 1st ever post about ROMAN from 7/26/2022. He's had a pretty cool 12 months.

AJ Politi apparently is one of those guys who needs high leverage situations...

Worcester brought him in for the bottom of the 9th & he allowed 2 hits, 2 walks, 1 HBP, 3 runs & 3 wild pitches, & left the game with runners on 1st & 2nd with 1 out & the lead down to 8-4.
