He's playing clips of the TB home runs with Sterling's calls. Heh -- good stuff.

"And of course Teixeira does nothing again."

I believe I've diagnosed your problem...

Anyway, download a program called Audacity (I forget the company that makes it, just google it) - I've used it plenty of times and it's great for recording online radio. Turn the volume up when you record, though, because it comes through a little soft when you replay it.
I've got it, it appears to be working, tho I'll find out later. You have no idea how grateful I am for this tip. Thanks so much. (I don't suppose that muting my computer speakers will have any effect on the "taping," so long as I have the volume up, as it has to be muted, that's the whole idea.)

I wrote this in the game thread, but if I was a NY fan and I heard Sterling doing his typical "BACK TO BACK AND A BELLY TO BELLY!!" routine while Mo was getting pounded during a miserable Yankee losing streak I would have flipped out.

It's all about him.

"Base hit by Crawford and...... it's gone?! How do you like that?! It went over the fence!"

Brutal. When I was at the new Stadium for the 2 games vs the Sox, I was listening to the game on the radio as I usually do.
You would swear there was a completely different game he was watching from the one I was. It was truly befuddling.

Wow, it's like Yankee elimination day over here. Now he's contemplating the end of Mariano. I mean, I guess you can talk about that, but jeez.

He also included in that contemplation the assertion that without Mo the Yankees would have no choice but to make Joba the closer if they had any intention of "playing for keeps."

Earlier in the discussion, after noting that Rivera had already given up as many home runs this season as he'd given up all last year (as discussed elsethread here), he proclaimed that "The Yankees haven't gotten over the Bay homer yet."

(FiOS subscribers everywhere can watch this live on YES HD.)

I'm convinced that Leeser from Whitestone must have the super secret phone number. How else can she get through three consecutive days?

They definately have a number they give out to favored callers. It's been mentioned a few times over the years.

As for Mariano, I guess it happens to everybody eventually, but I'm not believing that he's finished until the day he retires. Kind of funny how quickly we've gone from "Girardi is an idiot for not bringing Mariano back for the 10th" a couple of days ago to "Mariano is toast" now.

These are low times in Yankee Universe.

Man, listening to this, I'm half-convinced myself that the Yankees are about to become the Orioles of the late 90s. I'd say he's doing his laying-in-the-weeds act, but there's no Dog here chortling about how the Yankees are done.

Today, the schadenfruede is derived from the callers, not Mike. Which is almost better. Mike is playing the role of funeral director, and the callers are stopping by the body and saying a few words about the decedent.

Personally, I don't think they're done yet, but this is enjoyable radio. Still, there seems to be no solution to the middle relief problem.

Mike's talking about the abysmal Yankee defense. "Swisher and Damon are terrible at the corners. Melky is average at best in CF....Jeter is average at SS."

I thought Swisher came out well playing right-field? Of course his comment about Jetes is spectacular.

Mike calling Clemens a liar, didn't believe anything he said to Mike & Mike this morning. Says that McNamee had to be the one telling the truth because he had the most to lose.

Because they don't have access to ESPN guys, is Heyman the only baseball guy WFAN can pay to come on every week?

I'm asking because it seems he never really brings anything to the discussion. He usually just repeats and agrees with Mike's talking points from earlier in the day. And he never reveals any "insider information" that I can tell.

You are so right. I remember when Olney, Verducci amongst others used to go on Mike & The Mad Dog. ESPN & MLBTV snatched them all up. Murti and Coleman don't offer that much, even if they do only cover yanks and mets.
Kay has everyone on...

I like Murti and Coleman, at least I'll usually hear something new because they follow the Yankees and Mets every day.

Heyman can't give me anything new on the NY teams. And if he's there to provide a national perspective, it's not really working.

You're right it's a shame that someone like Olney can't come on. It seems like since Mike's gone solo, he's gotten less guests on, even considering the ESPN ban.

Yeah, I guess it's true that Sweeny isn't that bad, but Coleman... I can't agree with you there. But maybe it's more Mike's fault, because he usually loves to expose the breaking news before Sweeny or Coleman even get on. Hmm...

It does, however, seem like he IS in fact getting less and less guests. He seems like he's been talking to himself since Dog left. Is d Dog getting guests from ESPN on?

No. Only ESPN radio is getting ESPN guests. So if you want to hear Gammons or Olney you have to go to Michael Kay.

Of course that's not stopping Francesa from trashing Lord Haw-Haw-Haw-Haw-Haw (because he DOES say the same five things every time he's on; he was really bad in this regard during the off season) and getting Ken Rosenthal.

I hate Murti. He's a fanboy who says nothing remotely critical of the team. You could tell him that George Steinbrenner is naked on the outfield of the new stadium wearing a crown and doing Nazi salutes and he'd tell Benigno and Roberts that actually he could possibly be wearing a pasty white bodysuit, an eccentrically attired hat and that it might not be Nazi salutes but rather a new wave to the adoring Yankee faithful. He's like the Walter Duranty of WFAN.

Coleman couches to an unnecessary degree but at least if you peel back his words he's actually saying something about the team.

In fairness to Murti, he's only following the path previously trail blazed by his predecessor Suzyn Waldman. It seemed to work out pretty well for her, if not quite so well for the rest of us that have to listen to her...

Minor side note: yesterday a caller on Mike's Show criticized Boomer and Carton for the error of thinking that Pedroia was the Boston shortstop.

Mike - who certainly doesn't like the morning show - took liberty in throwing small jabs at that point.

And this morning - with the little that I listened...it seems like Carton wasn't happy about it.

Can someone verify that the caller's contention (that Boomer & Carton thought Pedroia was a shortstop) was accurate?

Yep - heard it in the shower yesterday morning. Boomer (I think) mentioned Pedroia while talking about shortstops, but that was it - one mention. They didn't dwell on D.P. at all - it was literally a three or four word statement and they moved on from there.

Clearly a brainfart on B&C's part, I'd like to think. Pretty petty of the Fat One to beat it into the ground.

Mike F. takes call from irate caller "I thought you were a respectable serious sports station" Francesa 'have been for 22 years...' caller 'how could your station put on the Citi Field streaker this morning?!' Mike F. I have no idea on that and almost pulled a Teddy I'm not responsible tirade...caller rambles on about it's supposed to be a sports station. How hard is it for folks to grasp morning shows on the fan and eei aren't strictly sports? It takes about one listen to figure this out. Mike Adams not funny Steve Somers funny after going back and forth driving three hours.

Mike ripping Joe Morgan now. Good stuff. He's fired up.

EDIT: Mike got pissed when he heard Joe say last night on the ESPN Mets/Giants broadcast that the unquestioned MVP of the NL was David Wright and that set Mike off on a diatribe ripping Morgan: "He parachutes in, doesn't do his homework and talks a lot of nonsense. It's about how clueless Morgan is, he knows nothing of what he's talking about."

"Hey the guy's got seven HR's."
2:44: Saying that the RS spent the winter "trying to get rid of" Varitek. Fails to add that team encouraged him to accept arbitration and that Henry made a trip to his Atlanta home.

Today he was also ripping Burnett. Saying something to the effect of:
"I can get another guy who bakes pies just as good as him for less money that actually wins games. I mean come on, the guy needs to worry a little less about the pies in the face and a little more about getting wins. He's too busy baking custard pies. We don't need any more pies, we need wins."

He must have said the word "pies" 100 times in the span of 30 seconds. It was a good listen.

If anyone enjoys listening to Mike go ballistic on a caller, here ya go:

Fantastic. The caller tried making the point that Chamberlin's ERA since becoming a starter is "the 5th or 6th best" in all of baseball. Mike flipped out, screaming "ARE YOU TELLING ME HE'S ONE OF THE 5 BEST STARTERS IN BASEBALL!?!?!?!?!?"

Since joining the Yankees' rotation last summer, Chamberlin's ERA in 3.25. Last season, a 3.25 ERA would have ranked 15th best in baseball.

Yeah, they're already building statues over at TheGangGreen.com.

Of course, if Belichick said anything even remotely approaching this, the site would go nuclear. If anyone thinks BBTL needs more quality control, head over there to put things into perspective.

Lisa from Whitestone already speed-dialing Mike to say that Papi's curtain call was the most disgusting rebuke to the sacred game of baseball she's ever seen.
