The Gazette is on it. Hard to tell what's fact or fiction:

Fiore issued a statement disputing the allegations in the espnW story.

“The espnW story by Kate Fagan is absolutely outrageous and rife with falsehoods. It is blatantly defamatory and my legal representatives have issued a cease and desist letter to espnW and any media outlet that has sourced or reprinted this article. The anonymous, ‘kitchen sink’ allegations that have been made against me are absolutely false. I cannot help but think that the motives of the unnamed ‘sources’ serve no purpose other than someone’s obvious financial gain and to hurt me personally and professionally. I will vigorously fight these bogus claims and defend my reputation.”

Stony Brook never provided a reason for Fiore’s dismissal. Its response to the espnW story was part of a New York Daily News story on Nov. 28, 2013 that includes the following passage:

“Stony Brook issued a statement in response to the allegations in the story saying it ‘takes all claims of discrimination and sexual harassment seriously’ but that because the claims ‘do not identify the sources of those allegations or the documents relied upon, the University and the public cannot reliably assess (their) truthfulness.’ It adds this: ‘What we can tell you is that the University received a single complaint concerning the athletic department from one university employee. We took this complaint very seriously and acted promptly to understand and respond to the issues raised.’ It refers to a 2012 sexual harassment complaint against Fiore that was investigated by the school and the State Department of Labor. These resulted in neither charges nor discipline.”

Fiore, who is the president and CEO of Dynamic Sports Management, a sporting event and marketing company on Long Island, New York, could not be reached for comment.

Regardless of where the facts lie, it's hard to believe he's even a candidate. Considering women's sports (softball, field hockey, lax, rowing) have been by far the most successful UMass programs over the past 15 years in Amherst -- where progressive politics rule the day -- I'm stunned they're bringing that guy in for a look-see.

Yeah, either way he's not a strong candidate for the job. From reading Danny White's bio on UB's page I actually hope he gets it. It indicates he was responsible for hiring Bobby Hurley which obviously worked out really well for them. Also improved the gameday experience for football and helped increase attendance there. I think if UMass had strong attendance in both football and basketball that would go a long way toward winning games and helping the recruiting.

Georgia Tech associate athletic director Ryan Bamford will become the seventh permanent athletic director at UMass.

According to several sources, athletic department staff were notified Sunday. An announcement is expected Monday with a press conference likely on Tuesday.

Former Massachusetts guard Derrick Gordon will transfer to Seton Hall, he announced on Twitter Sunday.

Gordon, the first openly-gay player in Division I men's basketball history, started every game for UMass over the past two seasons. He averaged 9.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game as a redshirt junior last season. He will be immediately eligible to play for the Pirates.

Gordon told ESPN.com that his decision to transfer "has absolutely nothing to do with my sexuality."

This is impressive recruiting by DK, but I think having the Champions Center is helping attract better talent.

Potentially a job-saving recruiting class. Would be great if this has a domino effect down the road.

What has gotten into Kellogg?
Having Camby and Coach Cal helping on Twitter is great to see. As stated above, the Champions Center is a huge recruiting tool. Also, these kids want to play right away and play with other good, young talent. It's about time we had a good recruiting class!

#18 right now by this websites metrics. Which is mindblowing to me right now. Kellogg is on a roll, hope it continues with Brown. If we get him, we gotta figure out a clever freshman recruit naming class right?

No other A10 programs in the top 50. Not only out-recruiting the rest of the league, but doing so by a country mile. Excellent for a program that really couldn't be considered much better than middle of the pack in the A10 right now and for the last decade.

Shaka leaving VCU (and taking a few recruits with him) really hurt their ranking this year. I hope they can have a good year and get back to business as usual, but I'm not confident that it will happen.
