SoSH protocol demands that if you started the previous game thread and our team won, you get to start the next game thread.

This was codified as “game thread mojo” back in ‘04.

Since the Pats did all they could to improve their draft position last week, they “won.”

So stick with me, your hot game thread hand. I’ll take you to the promised land.

I thank you for your faith, Brother Flexerson. I have a feeling a more-comfortable Zapper, with a good week of practice, might somehow find the end zone.

But this week will feature an underrated part of the draft pick campaign: Special Teams Fuckups.

I feel it in my bruised testicles…..a blocked punt, a fumble on a return, a hilariously botched XP. Something will turn the tide in our darkest hour.

Not going to lie, I was worried mid-2nd drive last week that the Chargers were going to let Rhamondre go for 200+ last week, the Pats would hold the ball for like 38 minutes, and win like 13-10. The injury was a huge sigh of relief.

There is no path to 10 points this week IMO.

I was so deeply concerned about the double-negative karmic implications of this thread that I send a memo to the protocols investigation division of SoSH Game Thread HQ.
Unfortunately, they must have changed their email address, because the Mail Delivery Subsystem bounced it back to me immediately.

You gotta believe Omar Epps wants this one bad. Has so few wins over BB, needs to capitalize on the chance to kick him while he's down.

Well, I am taking a risk here. But if the Pats don’t get a QB and run it back with Mac next year, SJH will lose his mind, post in a white-hot rage in BBTL, be un-doped, and subsequently banned from SoSH for conduct unbecoming.

So think of it this way. Remember when Obi Wan lowered his lightsabre and let Vader strike him down? It’s that. We allow the Steelers — surely the NFL Dark Side — to strike us down so that we become more powerful.

That, I can live with.

If you assume that the Pats will lose to Buffalo (away), KC (home), and Denver (away), I think a Pats loss tomorrow night all but guarantees that they'll receive no lower than the #2 pick, and maybe even guarantees it. Although the Pats could tie AZ with three wins with a win against the Jets, I'm not sure who would "win" the strength of schedule tiebreaker (which could be made moot if AZ beats another team, e.g., Chicago).

I think the Pats may have been approaching things wrong on offense. Given the presence of two shutouts this year, I think the Pats may be better off punting on 1st down and attempting to score points via safety going forward. The downside is that it does turn a 3-0 deficit into a two-score game, but the upside is that maybe we don't get shut out for the third time this year, since our defense will have more time on the field to score. Just putting it out there.

When Amazon bought Thursday night football, this is clearly what they had in mind.

I said it in one of the other threads. I can't remember which one. I think it was the one that is titled something about something else but has become the Belichick and Mac suck thread. But -- 17-10 Patriots. Someone called me "adorable" for saying that, which was nice, but then he got banned. Adorable is my aspiration. Anyway, I've been rooting for them to win up until the Chargers game and now I'm on team tank, which is bad for the rest of you, because it means they are going to win. 17-10 Pats. 2024 draft pick mediocrity here we come!

If calling DDB “adorable” is a bannable offense then ban me. You’re worth it adorable.
In a just world, truth would be a defense to banning.

I think you can get away with it in a game thread. But not in one of the super-serious data-driven BBTL threads.

I’m more nervous about a win tonight than I was about a loss in the playoffs during the golden era.

I've never watched a game on Prime before. Can we 'tape delay'? Meaning, can I join an hour into it and fast forward through the boring parts, or can you only watch live?

You can watch on delay and fast forward. You don’t need to watch it live.

I can't really root for them to lose, and I watch hoping they will score. But then I'm happy when they lose.
I've pretty much mastered this strategy. It's weird in that there's a kind of win-win element here -- but only as long as they ultimately lose. Should they actually win one of these games, I'm afraid my brain will explode.

Actually with Trubisky out there, the chances of a scoop-and-score dwarf those of Zappe hitting Thornton for a touchdown. Or Ryland kicking a PAT.

I had a driver honk at me this afternoon to I guess walk faster crossing an intersection. Steelers front “plate” (They’re like ants, everywhere)
I take that as a good sign

The keys to this game are to get off to a bad start, don't control the time of possession, lose the turnover battle, and don't play a full 60 minutes.
