Liverpool-Huddersfield soon to kick off the EPL's weekend. Biggest news is that Sturridge is in for Firmino & Ox makes the 18 for the first time this year.

Liverpool (4-3-3) Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, van Dijk Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Keita; Salah, Sturridge, Mane.
Substitutes: Mignolet, Milner, Gomez, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shaqiri, Origi, Matip.

Everyone is taking aim at Shane Long's record now.

But yeah, Liverpool needs to wake up and not think this one is over quite yet.

That's better.

No need to go crazy, they aren't catching City on GD unless something really crazy happens. Only way GD will come into play is if City lose a game and Liverpool draw one.

As a math exercise, I'm trying to think how this could happen.

Liverpool wins 8-0 today, making them even in GD, up 2 points, with game in hand. City draws, making them 1 point down, still even on GD with 2 games left...

MC goes 1-1 in final 2 staying even in GD, while Liverpool draws last 2? That would put them both at 93.

Yeah, there's a couple ways it could happen, most likely would be 1 Liverpool draw and 1 City loss, putting them both on 95.

In his "off year", Salah has 20 Premier League goals and currently leads the Golden Boot race.

I’d like to see Gomez, Shaqiri, & Ox get a run out here in the 2nd half.

With a 5-0 victory today, Liverpool are on GD +64 while City are +67. A Liverpool draw + City loss (to bring them level on points) would narrow the GD gap further by at least 1 (depending on how much City lose by). If that happens in round 37, then we get a final day shootout in which both teams try to win while running up their margin as high as possible.

In this scenario, City would likely have the tiebreaker if the teams finish level on both points and GD because they lead in goals scored.

True, but assuming the Liverpool draw and City loss were in week 37 to make it even going into the last week, that means City won in round 36, so they'd likely still have a solid GD lead.

Goal differential isn’t deciding this. Wolves and Burnley are.

If City get past Burnley, it’s done.

If Wolves steal from Liverpool, they deal for City.

Schedule matters. If Burnley do something tomorrow. It’s over. Liverpool won’t lose again in the league with the title on the line. If City pass the test, I genuinely believe Wolves become more dangerous. Liverpool’s belief will falter and make them far more vulnerable given the Champions League.

I think the title is decided this weekend.

Balbuena clears a Davies header off the line at the death! West Ham with a deserved win.

Edit: ...depending on how you feel about Son’s penalty shout.

So close now. Draw vs. NUFC and goal difference means Cardiff have to win out and hope Brighton can’t nick a point from Arsenal or Man City.

Arsenal continues their horrific play on the road. Iwobi is one on one with the keeper 12 yards away from net and blasts it right into the keeper.

Maitland Niles picks up a second yellow late in the first to leave Arsenal playing with ten men. Feels like a matter of time until Vardy puts one into the back of the net.

What is a Palace fan to do next week when they travel up to Cardiff? ;)

Burnley look up to the task today against a club at the tail end of two matches a week for a month consecutively. Can the Clarets keep a clean sheet for 45 more minutes?

If this doesn’t happen I will blame you for putting a hex on it.

If ManU can beat Chelsea today, they will have a very good chance for Top 4 as they will likely finish on 73 with their easy remaining schedule.
Their problem is that Chelsea (and Spurs) will have good shot as well. And both have better GD.

I think if Spurs beat Bournemouth next weekend they’re pretty much through.

That was an incredible, sustained period of pressure by City. And they’re doing it without KDB.

Poor Bailly, who looks to be seriously injured after riding the bench for 6 weeks.

Edit: he limped off with help, so maybe not as bad as first feared.

Second edit: Ole kind of half-heartedly waving his guys forward, kind of like I do with my son’s under-6 team. “C’mon, push up a little, please?”

Higuain can’t quite chip it over de Gea, and that ends the match! I don’t think you can credit de Gea with a great save give he was half turned and the ball deflected off his shoulder. He didn’t make himself big in an effective way.

De Gea saved us so many times over the years. Whoever writes this stuff is a cruel person.
de Gea should have pushed the ball out further, but where were his defenders? There’s no one with in 5yds of Alonso there.

I did the same thing to my keeper this week: I slowed down and watched my keeper deflect a long shot, got beaten to the rebound by a striker who didn’t take anything for granted. He scored, and my keeper rightfully chewed me out.

Plenty of blame to go around on that goal.

So the Aguero ball was 29 mm over the line, and the ball that didn't cross the line for LFC missed by 11 mm - less than 1/2 a cm separates these two teams this year. Wow, just wow!
