The cradle of the game.
Dodger fan pulls off hidden ball trick on Machado HR. Caught and kept the HR ball in his glove, then slyly pulled out another ball from his jacket and threw it back onto the field. All caught and outed by ESPN.

Snell looked like a slapdick prospect in the Trop today. Got shelled for 7 runs in 4 IP. Giants career isn’t off to a great start.

Weird, was he trying to get points for magnanimity or something? Is there something significant that would make it untoward of him to keep the ball as he's entitled to? Doesn't look to be a milestone ball for Machado, he's at 316 HRs. What am I missing?

It was a Dodgers fan trying to prove his manliness by throwing back a Padres HR. Because enjoying cool things is for wimps.

Except you know he secretly did want to enjoy the cool thing after all.

Would this mean he didn't, in fact, pull off the hidden ball trick?

It's high school ball, whatever. It's fun.

My dude--you GOTTA see the ball. If you don't see it, you don't move.

The Pirates and their $84 million dollar payroll have as many wins as the Dodgers (11) and a better run differential.
As do the Royals and their $115 million payroll and the Guardians and their $105 million payroll

He said (paraphrasing), "I'd never get out of here alive if I didn't throw back a baseball." Pretty shrewd if you want to keep the Machado souvenir while avoiding whatever abuse might come your way.

Technically yes. A ball was hidden. It was tricky. But the act was not the officially licensed "Hidden Ball Trick®"

I drove out to watch the Mutts and I have no idea who the fuck Jared Jones is but he is destroying the Mets. Just killing them

Absolute dominance thru 3, the one hit should have been caught by the LF.

edit: 46 pitches 39 strikes and… now it’s 49/42 thru 4; 59/50 thru five, threw two balls to the same guy, he must be getting tired

And they are taking him out at 59 pitches.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....
Couldn’t believe that. 59 pitches thru 5 and they took him out. Felt like I hit the lottery getting to see this guy live. Took me an inning to realize what I was seeing. First time at Citi Field, felt like taking my son to a game and Yankees are not home. I will go again. Maybe tix will get more expensive when it gets hotter but they are giving them away right now. Parking $20 at the mall and got home in 55 minutes. Great day at the park. Still hate the protective nets though. I will sit in the low bleachers and party with the animals next time to avoid these stupid nets. What a travesty done to a beautiful game.

edit: I’m a fan of this guy starting today. I’m going to note again, the one “hit” he gave up should have been caught. Happened right in front of me

Supposedly the plan was for him to throw just 5 innings today. A bit over the top, but better the Pirates do this than send him down like the Marlins did with Max Meyer.

But absolute domination. He was supposed to have some command and control issues, But he has just two walks (from his first start) in 23 innings, with 32 Ks.

4 to 3 Rays in the top of the ninth,
Angels on second and third, one out. Line drive single to left by Rendon that the left fielder has to go 12 to 15 steps to his right to corral. The runner from second, Neto was thrown out at the plate. It was a no doubt hit that Neto should have been off at the crack of bat on. How does that happen? 4-4

Moot. Angels win 5-4.

Have a feeling Alvarez for the Mets just tore the UCL of his 1st metacarpophalangeal joint and/or broke off a piece of bone with it. Left hand, but bet he's out a month at least.

As someone who hasn’t seen the play and has no idea what the above means, it sounds like his hand is horrifically mangled, potentially hanging on by threads

I'm going home
Snell/Montgomery showdown on Apple TV right now, Bottom 4, 2-1 Dbacks.

Soler just crushed a HR off Monty to put the Giants on the board.

Blake Snell has started 3 games so far, SF has lost those by a combined 34-6.

Mets beat the Dodgers 6-4 for their sixth win in a row. The Dodgers top three (Betts, Ohtani, Freeman) got on base 12 times in their 15 in their PA (4 H, 8 BB, 2 R, 3 RBI, 1 K, 4 LOB) the rest of the lineup got on base 4 times in their 26 PAs (2 H, 2 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI, 13 K, 24 LOB).

I’m at the Phillies v White Sox game and holy god the White Sox suck
Amazingly enough, the White Sox got the tying run at the plate. Pinto (apt name) almost blew a 9-0 lead. The Phillies had to put in their closer, who only threw one pitch for the S.
