Wait can someone explain why they didn't just let him "Rehab" with the big club? He has to be better than their end of the pen options.
He's rehabbing to build up his pitch count so he can slot into the rotation. Hard to do that from the bullpen.

He's also now done after 4 innings and exactly 75 pitches: 6 hits, 1 R, 6 K, 1 BB. Very encouraging.

I mean this is what he did more or less all of last year, but hopefully it means he pitches more than that this year.

I hate this day every year. Tease me with a fix, then make me wait 48 hours(or more, judging from the forecast tomorrow) for another. Like giving all your presents back on December 26.
Honestly, does it make any sense? If it rains Opening Day, just move forward one day. Some people will be inconvenienced, but others will be if tomorrow's game is rained out. (I think they'll get it in, but the hypothetical is what we're talking about.) This way, if the Saturday game is rained out, then they'll have to schedule a make-up for this series.

In the past, haven't they been able to preemptively move the game up a day and switch the off day (i.e. to today) when the weather looks iffy?

Not easily. It affects 25K fans and a few hundred game day employees pretty significantly. Not to mention the starting pitchers, who are aiming for a day later.

Do you want a bullpen game right about now?

I guess it depends on if they play or not. If they ultimately postpone it, then it's basically the same problem? The rain percent looks lower later in the day, so hopefully it's a non-issue.

What was the point, then?
The point is there is zero point in scheduling an off day immediately after opening day because April weather is impossible to predict anyway. If opening day gets rained out, so be it.

If the concern is that fans paid a premium for those tickets, then have those tickets be valid for the opener, and push the game 2 tickets to some other makeup date.

The game is scheduled for 4:10, which according to the hourly forecast is within the window between the two storms hitting the area (rain is supposed to end between 2-3 pm and is not expected to resume until sometime around 8 pm). So it might be cloudy and gray, but they should be able to get the game in, assuming the field isn't turned into a marsh by the rain.

Fenway opening day should be the Friday before Patriots Day every year

but the time for todays game turned out to be as good as possible.
