Happy, having-fun Messi is a joy to watch.

Then you think about Ronaldo and the time he’s having (yesterday being the latest example) and it’s clear who chose the better life.

Miazga furious that the ref played advantage up to the point where Ruiz went down in prime free kick position

Fuckin’ Gimenez picks up his second yellow at 27’, and then the Galaxy immediately score on the restart. Gonna be a long night.

Vancouver hadn’t kept a clean sheet since May 21…until this evening. Chicago is back to being a disjointed mess, and not even an entertaining one.

St. Louis
FC Dallas loses their goalie in the 12th minute on a straight red for handling the ball outside the box (DOGSO), and they hold firm until St. Louis puts a cross home in the 82nd. They traded a goal each after that, ending 2-1.

STL is 7 points clear in the West with one more game played.

The Sounders benched Ruidiaz (he hasn't scored in 732 minutes!) and scratched out a win in Austin last night with Morris playing up top. Morris was up top during the team's red-hot start to the season and I'm hopeful that this might become a slightly more permanent thing. Hard to keep Ruidiaz benched, but he's just not producing and is never healthy.

Oh, and the Sounders may or may not have gotten away with one ...

Christ. Teran with a no doubt foul in the box but somehow manages to score an own goal in the process. Took a minute for the ref to sort out - PK waved off in favor of the goal.

Chicago Fire Soccer!

It’s all DC so far, 3-0 before half. I don’t know what happened in the weeks after dropping out of Leagues Cup, this team just stop showing up.

I haven't been to a game in months, but decided to come to Sounders-Timbers. Hopefully Seattle doesn't shit the bed like they have the last 10 times against Portland.

Shalrie Joseph posted a farewell message of sorts to Bruce Arena on social media.

https://www.instagram.com/shalrie21/

This leads me to believe two things
  1. The Revs are about to fire Bruce Arena.
  2. Shalrie believes a farewell message is appropriate, based on his knowledge of the accusation against Bruce.
So a club in second place appears to be about fire its manager in circumstances that are under dispute. Combined with Saturday's donation of two points, this week could represent a new low in the twenty-seven year-long club history, which is no small feat.

It seems more like a message of support.. the only part that can be interpreted as a farewell is that they used to have convos in the morning and they don’t anymore..

The whole fiasco is unbelievable.

I wonder if the league would let Chicago hire Bruce this winter…

I'd pay good money to listen to Bruce Arena and Georg Heitz meet to discuss roster building strategy.

To be honest, there's a good chance this is it for Bruce. He's 71 and retirement was looming anyway.

There's a hole at the center of the story that prevents me from feeling anything super specific about it, so I'll go with the general sense of annoyance with how much this is falling apart.

I especially feel for Shalrie Joseph. He is a consensus pick as a top-two player in Revs history and this is the second time the organization has tossed him aside. The first was back in 2012 when he was traded to Chivas midseason after finally getting the DP contract he had clearly earned.

This club can’t handle any sort of prosperity.
Can't let the local basketball club beat them at coach drama shrouded in mystery and innuendo.

I would believe almost anything I was told that Bruce Arena did. He's not quite in the "Tyson Zone", but would I believe that he said something incredibly impolitic, even racially abusive? Sure. Hit a player? Sure. Cursed out his superiors? Sure. He's 71, old people sometimes lose impulse control and/or verbal filters. But the fact that there's no police involvement rules out stories beyond a certain level of crazy. The lack of leaks with specifics strongly suggests it's not the usual "conduct, not results, getting a coach fired" - like the FC Cinci coach a few years ago who said some stuff, or that RSL guy who lost his mind, or Jim Montgomery binge drinking while with the Dallas Stars. If it's anything in that category, someone's going to blab to the press, it's just how sports media works. So the lack of that is surprising. Pair that with a lack of details coming from the team itself, and it just raises the possibility that "maybe he didn't really do anything". That this is just some Macbeth-style palace intrigue, like Jack Easterby going from chaplain to General Manager via some bamboozling of a naive young guy who had recently inherited the team.

That's not really the first, second or third thing you'd guess, but eventually, if we start deeming other possibilities as being even less likely, I'm not sure how much else we're left with.

Pretty miserable 0-0 draw between Chicago and Montreal last night.

The worst of it is that Guti has developed horrible body language on the pitch. He’s acting just like Shaq now - throwing up his hands, slouching his shoulders, bitching whenever his teammates or ref don’t do as he expects. I get that this have been a supremely frustrating month and Guti is being asked to be more of a leader on pitch, but this ain’t it.

A few weeks ago, Tyler Terens hinted that there’s off-field problems that are impacting performance. Terens was the Fire’s local play by play guy for 2 years, so he has the contacts to hear this kind of thing. That win streak before Leagues Cup seems like a year ago.

That's a freaking awesome promotion, @67YAZ .

The Sounders are unveiling a new logo later this month as part of the 50th anniversary of the club celebrations next year. People are pretty nervous here as most MLS redesigns have gone poorly, but the Sounders have been working with lots of different groups related to the club for nearly a year. So, I'm hopeful it will be really cool.

As far as on the field things, the Sounders picked up a rare win defeating hapless Colorado on Wednesday. Cristian Roldan started for the first time in months (missed 13 matches because of concussion issues) and it's pretty wild to see how he is the most important cog for the Sounders. On paper, you'd think it would be either Ruidiaz or Lodeiro or Frei or even Morris, but no, it is Roldan.

The West is absolute dogshit, as an aside. Seattle didn't win a game for nearly two months, but is still in second place only five points out of first. Granted, LAFC and Houston are right behind them and have a game in hand. Seattle's 45 points would be good for seventh in the East.

I’m glad you Revs fans got to see a great Guti match tonight. I just hope he didn’t blow out his knee at the end.
