I’m actually moderately optimistic, qed 82-85. The team on the field is significantly more skilled than what they ran out last year. The pitching of course is a black hole. OTOH, Brez seems to be remarkably creative and bold as opposed to his predecessor, and I foresee him doing something, outside of the box once the news on Golito becomes final. In the meanwhile, and particularly with the upcoming draft, the Sox have another good opportunity to deepen the prospect pool and presumably their depth with pitching (that has nothing to do with the 2024 record, of course.). I am fully prepared to scrape egg off myself, having developed great skill with that art over the years.

Well, I'd been holding off on posting my predictions because I'd been hoping against hope for a Monty signing, didn't figure I'd be well served to wait for Giolito to go down. Ah well. I'm going with 74 wins. As I've said elsewhere, I love the upside this team has but I think we're betting on too many leaps from our pitching staff AND needing no injuries. I think the team will have some fun stretches this year, but I think the pitching staff will be running on fumes by sometime in August and we'll be in for another fall baseball death spiral. Oh well. Would love to be wrong and there's enough on this team I'll be tuning in for better or for worse.

I'm thinking 69 wins. The catalyst of that is taking an internal solution to replacing Giolito, as Brez may have implied. If the inside solution takes hold, there will be a growing number of losses by June, and the Sox will be mostly sellers at the deadline, dispensing even more of the experienced pitchers, including relievers. I will gladly revise those numbers if we grab onto a free-agent better than Lorenzen. If it is Lorenzen, that would add three or so wins to the total.

Based on almost nothing new except that there seems to be a bit of optimism and youth coming out of spring training, I have bumped my predicted win total back up to 77. If they sign Montgomery I will put it up to 81, but I seriously doubt they will.
@Rovin Romine I have edited my original post.

EDIT: I am now trying to talk myself into upping my prediction to 77 or even (gasp) 78 wins same as last year. Farking sorry state this offseason has reduced me to. Any words of wisdom out there? I just don't see where they have improved, except as the young hitters are maturing, and maybe Yoshida will have adjusted to the league. The pitching is definitely NOT better, unless 2nd half Pivetta is the real deal and the B's have actual black magic working. The defense might be a bit better, but how many wins does that equal? I hate having no optimism - and I blame it on the ridiculous "full throttle" comments that were clearly not the view of the actual ownership group. OK I am going with 77. Minus one for Sam Kennedy - he is a loss all by himself.
