Gloating, or even discussion, about Kyrie’s ouchie shouldn’t be in a thread about his comments on race and Boston.
Crutches means nothing. You do not walk on even a minor ankle sprain for the first tw0 days. If I had known that in the 80s I would be a much happier man today.Completely agree. Moved from other thread.
A bit hard to predict return to play from a bad low lateral ankle sprain, as players can often return before the ligaments are fully healed. It's more about getting the swelling down, pain tolerance, and how much you can actually accomplish on the court.
I don't have much of a prediction, but it looked pretty bad and reports were that he was on crutches so I wouldn't be surprised if he misses more than just Game 5. I think Nets would be lucky to have him back in the next 10-14 days.
I feel fortunate that I can just appreciate how good he is at what he does and separate that from the rest of the stuff.Kyrie is one of the most talented -- if not the most talented -- ball handlers in NBA history. He's insanely talented, and there's a reason he's almost universally respected across the league by his peers.
3rd out of the last 4.Very unLucky for Kyrie to injure his right ankle. Is this the third or fourth season that he got hurt and missed games in the playoffs?
Hardly seems forgotten 'round these parts.3rd out of the last 4.
In the one he was healthy he completely quit on his team and started randomly freelancing on defense in one of the most forgotten bizarre performances ever.
It is exceptionally disappointing not one story about his charges of racism, his logo stomp, even touched on how terribly he played his last playoffs with the Celtics. Even something like ,"Irving who missed 67 of 104 shots in his last series...' or 'Kyrie who went 6-21 in his last game as a Celtic charges..."3rd out of the last 4.

I wish I could forget it.Hardly seems forgotten 'round these parts.
But on the other hand, it is exactly such memories that make the current schadenfreude so tasty.I wish I could forget it.
Yeah, the physical and mental fragility is very real, and has to be significantly priced in to the Nets' odds going forward.Kyrie has missed 33 of 103 playoff games over his career to injury, 32%, compared to the 27% of regular season games he has missed. His teams are 11-2 in playoff series when he doesn’t miss a game, 3-6 when he is injured, which includes 1-3 when he is injured mid-playoffs. His teams were eliminated with him healthy and playing only twice, when he punted the Bucks series to end his Celtics career, and when the Warriors won the 2017 title in five games. Of the seven years his teams have made the playoffs in his ten year career, one title, four seasons where he was out of service when eliminated.
The clutch jumper that secured the title in game seven at Golden State somewhat masks how problematic he is to a team with championship aspiration. Watching the Nets crash and burn so spectacularly, after three of their starters douched over their teams to take the (perceived, for this season) easy way out to a title, and join the King of the Easy Path, was the most enjoyable non-Celtic NBA moment since Ralph Sampson eliminated the Lakers in the final second.
Hopefully the Celtics will ascend and beat him and his super friends in the playoffs next season, with Kylie actually being healthy enough to play.
And our young Jayson Tatum, age 19 IIRC, stood toe to toe with KD and held his own (except for the game where Durant eye gouged him, and for a few minutes after KD chopped Tatum in the throat). Too bad things didn’t go better for the Cs health wise this season. They could have been the team pounding the stake into the Nets in the second round instead of the Bucks. After seeing how ridiculously dominant KD is (pretty clearly the best player in the game now, and I don't think it's that close)
The Lakers and Nets not making the conference finals makes for fantastic viewing for me and many other Boston-based neutrals. Even Philly doesn't bother me that much. Going to enjoy the rest of the playoffs greatly; its great to have new star players and new teams getting to compete for a title.Kyrie has missed 33 of 103 playoff games over his career to injury, 32%, compared to the 27% of regular season games he has missed. Still focused on this, have no rooting interest in anyone left over, 'cept maybe the outside chance the Hawks get by the Sixers tonight. And our young Jayson Tatum, age 19 IIRC, stood toe to toe with KD and held his own (except for the game where Durant eye gouged him, and for a few minutes after KD chopped Tatum in the throat). Maybe the Nets can trade Kyrir for Westbrook and have OKC 2012.Yeah, the physical and mental fragility is very real, and has to be significantly priced in to the Nets' odds going forward.
After seeing how ridiculously dominant KD is (pretty clearly the best player in the game now, and I don't think it's that close), the Nets have to be thinking about moving Kyrie for someone more complementary and robust. Not sure whether Durant would allow that though.
Once you take out both centers, the Philly players aren't that hateable. And if you don't count the Lakers schadenfreude in the Clippers success, I'd probably prefer them to LAC, especially based on where Doc presently is.Philly has always been a close 1-b to the Lakers 1-a in my NBA sports hate.
I'm all in for the Hawks tonight, though I sense Cinderella might get roughed up at the ball tonight.
In the West give me the Suns. I've got nothing against the Sons of Bob McAdoo, other than the LA part, but the Suns gave me a lot of joy and a game for the ages in '76 and them finally notching their belt is ok with me.
Are the Philly centers you refer to Wilt and Moses? I've sports hated Philly a long time. They're my least likeable team left in the tourney.Once you take out both centers, the Philly players aren't that hateable. Hopefully the Deerhawks and the Suns make this moot.

Same. Moses, Erving, Cheeks, Dawkins, Barkley. My sports hate for the 76ers started at a young age and will take more than a lifetime to shake. Are the Philly centers you refer to Wilt and Moses? I've sports hated Philly a long time. They're my least likeable team left in the tourney.
AX-I knew you were talking about the current team. I was putting my sports hate for Philly into a timeline that goes back a few years.Embiid and Howard
Moses was a tiny bit before my time, and as far as I heard, he wasn't as hateable as Toney.
But yes, I will be rooting against them every game they have left. Hopefully they're out tonight.
I hate the Flyers and Ph Eagles a lot more than the Sixers.
It's funny, because I hated those 80's 6ers teams, but not many of the players were particularly hateable. I mean, Mo Cheeks? Bobby Jones? Dr J? I never really hated Malone either. But put them together, and yuck.AX-I knew you were talking about the current team. I was putting my sports hate for Philly into a timeline that goes back a few years.
76ers guards in the 80s, Cheeks, Toney, Hollins, were headaches, but Larry told Moses to eat shit, so there's that.
I think you mean *Mix* them together. He was the original Laimbeer, IIRC.It's funny, because I hated those 80's 6ers teams, but not many of the players were particularly hateable. I mean, Mo Cheeks? Bobby Jones? Dr J? I never really hated Malone either. But put them together, and yuck.

Edit: BR with an article saying the Nets GM might want to move on from Kyrie.
Which, yeah, of course, because as Kliq points out there could be ways to use Kyrie's value more efficiently, such as by finding a big man or, perhaps, a starter and a very solid bench player, etc. But it probably depends on what the Nets think about how dealing Kyrie would mean for Durant re-signing there after next year.Sullivan, who goes behind the scenes with the Nets in his new book Can't Knock the Hustle, added that Brooklyn general manager Sean Marks "would maybe, possibly, apparently be willing to at least listen to a trade offer for Kyrie this offseason."
Maybe they can make it a three way deal and import Kev’s buddy Al in the process? The biggest thing Kyrie has in his favor is that it might upset Durant. The latter just has a player option after this season and there is no return for Kyrie that would justify pissing off Durant in what is essentially a contract year.
This exactly. They won't know what he wants until they ask...and then they should listen.Yeah, the only right answer for Brooklyn is "ask Durant" and then do that.
