Kraft Again Passed Over by HOF

I just read 'The Dynasty' by Jeff Benedict and although there is a lot of Kraft hagiography in the book, he did make the owners a shit ton of money with the TV networks negotiations, played nice with Deflategate by accepting the punishment instead of suing, and kept the team in NE. I would be OK with him not being in but if Jones is in there Kraft should definitely be in.
I always heard he was a highly influential owner and was very involved in the TV rights negotiations and the CBAs. I thought that would get him in vs just owning a winning team.

Wow I was going to guess a Vinatieri connection. That's even sillier.

Kraft deserves to be in the football HOF the way Michael Eisner deserves to be in a business HOF - they don't, it shouldn't even be a thing. They very ably managed the business decisions that were in front of them, empowered the right people, and as a result made a lot of money for themselves and their business partners. Kraft didn't innovate with the game, didn't save it from a crisis, he negotiated some great TV deals and had the smarts to get the F out of the way of the greatest football coach ever and not micromanage. His greatest service to the game, therefore, was an act of omission, not of commission. Hall of Fame? WTF. He's a great owner, a model owner in every respect except keeping his 85yo pants up.
Not according to Jeff Saturday. Saturday (and others) attributes the saving of the game (that year) and ending the 2011 strike to Robert Kraft. https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/jeff-saturday-kraft-helped-us-save-football/

IMHO this, along with aforementioned contributions, should place Kraft firmly in the Hall. i know the vote is up and down according to the year, but I think he should be in hands down.

Honestly? Not all that many. Kraft, BB, Seymour is in already, as is Ty Law. Randy Moss is in but his MIN career was likely enough for that. Same with Revis and the Jets.

Tedy and Rodney won't be in. Neither will Edelman.
I think Slater gets in. 10x Pro Bowl, 2 All Pro, very good rep. People say Tasker should be first, but Slater's got championships and a fuller resume. I think the voters will like the idea of creating the first father-son HOF duo as well.

Would add Gronk to the list of those making it because of TB12. But, yeah, the list will be much smaller than you'd assume given the team's success. Like, there needs to be a Super HOF for guys like Brady given how much of a greater impact he had than other HOF members.
Gronk would have made the HOF no matter what team had drafted him.

Unless he ended up on the Jets.

But the logic you are using is stupid too. "Did this person excel at his assigned position" assumes that all players are created equal in terms of ability to influence the outcome of a game, which is incorrect. AV should be in the Hall, but it's because no human has scored more points than him and he came up big in big situations. Gary Andersen and Janikowski - who were probably better kickers than AV (I can't be bothered to research) should not be in the HoF.
I think your logic is the one that's flawed, but it might reflect the reality of Hall voting, since they clearly value certain positions over others. But great centers and guards can be as important to a team's success as a great RB or WR.

On my hike through Philly today I realized when AV for sure will go into the Hall: when Justin Tucker retires. Because he's someone who has been pretty consistently praised as the greatest, most accurate, most consistent, strongest legged (blah, blah, blah) kicker in the history of the sport, so most will consider him a sure bet for the Hall. And when they start to consider his candidacy, they'll go, "Remember all those big kicks he made in the playoffs for the Ravens....yeah, me neither. Maybe we should put Adam Vinatieri in first."

On the Mankins tangent - he's probably judged to a degree that they won right before and right after. And tbh - it's fair. He was the worst player on the field in both of their Giants losses. Yea, he was injured in 46. I get it. But I think it's a proper criticism when they were winning again as soon as he left.

Given everything he's contributed to the NFL owners, especially $$$ and stability, there comes a point where, even with the handy factored in, Kraft's choice not to aggressively fight Deflategate starts to look like a sucker move.
It was dumb then and now. I mean they won so whatever. But the league tarnishing the reputation of its best franchise and greatest player should never be forgiven.

This is a dumb take. He was not the worst player on the field in either case, but he did play poorly,

The RB position has been overvalued since Dan Marino broke into the league. As incredible as Barry Sanders was....1 playoff win. I will scream from the rooftops that Dan Koppen is the most underrated player of the Patriots Dynasty and it isn't close (It's not), so you don't have to sell me on the interior lineman case.

But in the case of kickers and punters you have the marginal benefit case to make. I personally believe that there are almost no kickers who could have matched AV's accomplishments. But there is a reasonable case to be made that there are a dozen guys who could have when you look at career accuracy, average length and all that boring shit, etc. I would argue that elite centers and guards stand out more than kickers and punters, as well as safeties, outside LBs in certain schemes and sometimes even TEs..

You want to argue on the margins that Light or Solder were slightly worse, go for it. But the bread and butter of the Pats was always passing, and Mankins was terrible in both.

For the sake of record, here are the other 10 finalists beyond Parker and Kraft: Tom Coughlin, Mike Holmgren, Bucko Kilroy, Dan Reeves, Art Rooney Jr., Marty Schottenheimer, Mike Shanahan, Clark Shaughnessy, Lloyd Wells and John Wooten.

He is also completely shitwrecked at this point. "As Drunk as Bob Kraft accepting an AFC Championship trophy" really should be a thing. I love him so much. I would totally be on the "Hooker, cocktails, Private Jet, many more cocktails, lift trophy" plan if I owned an NFL team.
Drunk Bob Kraft was my fantasy football name back when I played.

If Kraft continues to get the snub from the HoF, he may have to simply take the matter into his own hands.

Your hypothesis is that failure in the passing game falls predominately on the LG at the NFL level?
