Gerry Callahan had no idea who Andrew Bailey is and couldn't believe he won the 2009 AL Rookie of the Year award.

I caught part of that, I thought I must have missed a joke when I heard him say that Bailey wasn't ROY. Did he really think that the person who told him he was made it up or something?

Nobody on that station knows any player who doesn't either play in the AL East now or did at some point.

Give The Forehead a break. He's too engrossed in all things Mel Gibson this week to give a crap about the AL ROY from last year.

But is he?

Okay, Callahan is a bad bad man, he's a racist, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Today, for some reason, Dennis wasn't there from 9:30-10. It was just Callahan and Meter, and they exclusively talked sports.

I'm not saying that Callahan doesn't enjoy ranting on librarians, being a crazy hard right-winger, and all of that. But there is a common denominator here. When Dennis is out, and Callahan is paired with somebody else (Neumie, Jackie Mac, Meter) he talks sports.

John Dennis hasn't contributed a sports opinion to the program in years. He asks a few 3 minute questions to the interviewee, goes in and out of breaks, talks to Brad Faxon, and that's it.

It's very clear that the only sport he regularly watches is golf. He admittedly falls asleep during most Red Sox games, and probably hasn't watched a hockey game since the 80's.

I have always thought that John Dennis is the main problem with the format of the show. You may not like Callahan, but I think if he was paired with another host, it would be much more sports based.

I think you're on to something. After all, it was Dino that actually made the "waiting for Metco bus" slur, while all Callahan did was just bust a gut in response. Dennis is like the KKK grand wizard, while Callahan is just an ignorant follower.

The funny thing is that during Dennis' tv career, I always liked him, even if I never found him to be that substantial. And I loved his performance in the movie "Kingpin." But now, when I watch that movie, I have to turn it off before they reach Dennis' scenes. (And I hate missing out on Bill Murray's classic comb-over.)

They do golf talk better than anyone else.

I tuned in during T&R commercial breaks between 7 and 8 this AM and they were talking golf. In great detail - analyzing the breaks of the greens, Tiger's swing, etc.

If I liked golf, I might have stuck around.

John Dennis is, apparently, still alive. And interested in A sport. It's just not one that fits my demographic. I'm not sure who is in the demo for an hour of fairway analysis, but to each his own.

More golf this morning, which was interesting, since I was expecting more humorless Mel Gibson talk. Since I don't like golf, I switched over to the other station to listen to them giggling about how Toucher doesn't watch porn. The porn discussion was funnier. But I tip my cap to D & C for doing some good sports talk.

D&C (mostly C, admittedly) spent the better part of 2 hours implying that Martin Kaymer is gay. Beyond the implication, they felt like that was something suitable to make fun of. It wasn't until Brad Faxon arrived in Hour 3 mentioning Kaymer's Furman girlfriend that the two of them quit it.

The most stunning part of your post is that John Dennis was influenced by a fact.

Maybe this has been pointed out before, but did anyone else ever notice Meter-Parel's, I'm not sure what you'd call it, "vocal tic" I guess? At the end of almost every statement he makes he makes a little sound with his throat, sounds like he's making the "gulp" sound. I can't imagine he's doing it on purpose, but I just wanted to make sure I'm not imagining things.

I'm pretty sure Callahan just encouraged people to burn Korans tomorrow. "it's just a little book" and to paraphrase "burning a Koran is as harmless as streaking"

Moments ago...

Jerry: "When you think about it the Ground Zero mosque is worse than the Koran burning because the victims families will have to see it every day."

Jesus...I turned them off at about 6:30 am because they'd already spent a few minutes talking about it. Apparently they were still going strong three hours later.
At least they're consistent.

I don't live in Boston and never stream EEI, but I found nifty new radio app for my Droid that let's one stream sports talk from all over the county and figured "what the hell? I'll listen to EEI on my train ride this morning". Sweet Jesus, it was awful. I lasted 5 minutes. They were talking about the Cowboys/Skins and Lions/Bears games, but I don't think anyone actually *said* anything either interesting or funny.

Sorry to drop into a thread from nowhere, but man, that was painful.

Heard this morning around 725 or so, after a caller was complaining about the political talk and that D&C should "give it up" now that their guys lost.

Dennis - "What do you expect us to do? We're a talk radio show; do you want us to say 'Congrats Patrick won, congrats Frank won, now let's talk about David Ortiz's contract'?"

Yes. That's exactly what I want you to do. You're a sports radio show. Talk about Ortiz, VMart, The Celtics, Moss etc etc etc.

I can't believe that you listened to these two clowns today, of all days.

If I was in the car and the radio was broken and the only station that I could get was 850 and for some reason I couldn't shut it off, I'd jam a Q-tip in my ear. Hard.

It's like watching MSNBC last night with Olberman and Maddow, it's kind of fun because Callahan is such a sore loser.

My last/best day of listening to those clowns was the morning after Obama won in November 2008. So nice to have T+R as a sports talk option in the AM. And a bit telling that a show as bit and humor driven as T+R still manages to talk sports much more than D+C.

If I want to listen to political talk, I'll tune to NPR. If I want news, I'll tune to WBZ. Besides the knuckle-dragging demographic, I have no idea who D+C appeal to. But perhaps I am just not old and cynical enough to understand.

Its not just knuckle-draggers, its also anyone who doesnt get the game they play. They appeal to those who share some of D&Cs political and racist beliefs, and they dont appeal but keep the attention via frustration of those with the complete opposite beliefs who are enraged at D&Cs propoganda and how completely innappropriate they are. Trut me D&C love to have people call in to argue against their beliefs and they secretly laugh because they know their approach is working.

I turned on D&C for a bit this morning...they were actually talking about Randy Moss.

I was disappointed, because I tuned in to hear Callahan crying about all Dems winning. I was hoping for misery.

I don't know why so many people are always calling these guys racist. Most of you probably don't even know that Callahan's grandfather actually died in a Nazi concentration camp. It's true.

He fell out of the guard tower.

And oldie but a goodie.
I was already drafting a response in my head after reading the first 2 sentences, then I started chuckling that was great.

First question from Dennis to Herm Edwards:

'Two questions: A) Were you surprised only one team claimed Randy Moss? and B) If Randy had been a model citizen, how many teams would have claimed him?'

Um, what? How could you answer the second question? And who cares? What do you say, 'MORE'?

FUCK.

Are the ratings that bad on NESN these days that putting these clowns on is a better alternative? I mean if their listeners have been looking for a choice all these years, whatndonthey think will happen if they have to actually look at them?

Wow, could not believe when I saw them on NESN last night during the Bruins intermission, Dennis has to of gained a good 40 pounds since the last time I saw him

I've been watching since 6. My TV is usually tuned to Mike & Mike during the morning, but since they got bumped to ESPNews by college basketball coverage (really, a game at 6am?) I switched over to NESN. Nothing special, nothing horrible either. They've pretty much been talking Vick all morning, which is a tired story but given his performance last night, at least it's relevant.

Only objection I have is on NESN's crawl. Among their "Top Stories", after Vick/MNF and the Bruins win and the Sox picking up Buchholz, I read "Prince William announces engagement" and "Christina Aguliera to get star on Walk of Fame". Those are noteworthy to the NESN audience?

They could use more graphics and maybe some video highlights running under their commentary so we're not staring at their mugs the whole time, but for a first show, it hasn't been a disaster. Well, it's still D&C, just a bit more focused than I'm used to hearing. Minimal right-wing bloviating (Callahan has dropped a couple lines in and of course there was a "Sarah Palin's Alaska" mention).

My favorite part of their appearance on the Bruins intermission was when Dennis said something like: "We talk about things sports fans like to talk about, which is not always sports! We talk about politics and Mel Gibson!"

Well, I lasted about 5 minutes and only because the TV channel was still on NESN from last night's hockey game. NESN thought this would be an improvement over NESN Daily? Quickly switched over to Comcast. I am not a big fan of Chris Collins, but not only did he "talk sports" he even had video highlights of sports!

I can't imagine anyone who wants to get a 30 minute loop of game highlights, interviews, analysis, etc. would want to watch two radio hosts interacting with callers. (Disclaimer: I stopped listening to D & C over three years ago and I am not in their demographic, so it's probably no big deal that I won't tune in)

Considering each of them is looks like a different species of circus freak, putting them on TV is a truly horrid idea. Dennis looks like he's in a hollywood fat suit (Think Eddie Murphy's "Nutty Professor" or Travolta in "Hairspray") and KKKallahan is a dead ringer for Julian Beck in "Poltergeist 2." It's hard for me to decide which is uglier: their physical appearance, or their black, rotten souls.

I also noted that the Brady interview didn't run until after the 9 a.m. end of the show on NESN. If I were NESN, I'd be a little peeved about that scheduling.

Well it was a day old interview and going forward the Brady interview will run live on NESN on Monday mornings.
Day old as in taped? Was it? I got the impression that because of the late game Sunday, Brady didn't call in yesterday at all (Dennis said something early in the show to the effect of having let Brady "sleep in" yesterday). I was disappointed that the interview didn't air until after 9, but I attributed it more to Tuesday being the usual off-day and Brady wasn't up at his usual 6am like he would be if he were headed to Foxboro.

I watched a little bit, and the show seemed very inoffensive. In fact, almost "vanilla." They were really only talking about Michael Vick and a few other football notes.

Look, the real test is going to come when Callahan goes off on a political rant. It has to come, and it's going to offend. We'll see how (or if) NESN responds.

But yeah, today was a really vanilla show. Nothing memorable, but nothing cringe inducing either. Which is a step up for these guys (and yeah, they both look awful. As a side note, when happens when they go on vacation and we get LARRY JOHNSON and Craig Mustard as the fill-ins? LJ on TV! Yummy).

Anyone who expected them to tone it down got their answer today as they spent a good hour demonizing "criminal illegal aliens".
