Good lord. Aside from Buckley, who I like, Thornton and Smerlas are two of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. If only there was some way they could have added Butch Stearns and Larry Johnson to that mix.

Of course today was the day that I-495 South was a traffic apocalypse on the morning commute.  Thornton is awful at everything, including radio.  Adding Smerlas was just taunting the listernership.  It really is remarkable that they didn't have Stearns host the show to complete the circle of suck.

Not sure if I've mentioned it here or not, but it was a note in my Globe column today -- Gerry is definitely coming back (already signed), but Dino is very much up in the air. Deal is up Sunday. Could be a very interesting show early next week.

Apparently the only reason DeOssie wasn't there to make it a quartet was that he was in NJ attending Pats-Giants.

The napalm with which Dennis will torch the WEEI bridge if he's not renewed might be entertaining, but there's really no hoping for anything much better, judging by the talent decisions already being made by the new EEI brass.

MFB is absurdly bad - not even so much abhorrent as just embarrassingly amateurish. There's constant talk of "actually, I don't really believe this, I'm just putting it out there," and other than a couple of nuggets when Lou or Fauria are talking about their former sports, there's zero insight. They often can't even get out of their own way, stumbling over intros to segments, getting caught up in what each other are eating for lunch.

Just shitty.

And while Dale and Holley are fine, the rejects they're forced to work with in the rotating 3rd chair have them often audibly cringing.

And Jerry Thorton? Why on god's green earth would anyone continue to put him on the radio. He's not funny, doesn't know anything about sports, and has a voice only a mother could love.

So, yeah, celebrate the exit of Dino should he leave, but be ready for something demonstrably worse.

I haven't listened to D&C for many years now.  However, I will certainly celebrate his leaving solely because of what a terrible person he genuinely seems to be.

WEEI is keeping its @DandCShow program intact. @JohnDennisWEEI has agreed to terms today. @GerryCallahan already had.

Dennis probably took so long to sign because he was asking questions about the new Entercom healthcare plan.

"So, it sounds to me that you are saying, as my current -- and future, I hope, ha, ha -- humans resource manager that the HMO, otherwise known as an health maintenance organization, choice may be, in fact, based on averages and the number of times a person, in this case ME or maybe in other cases, my new wife, needs to be examined by a doctor, nurse practitioner, EMT--otherwise known as an emergency medical technician--might be cheaper and, dare I say, a better and smarter choice than if I were to choose the corresponding option, the PPO or preferred private organization? Because, if you are actually saying that, then there are a few other questions, or queries or I don't know, requests, maybe, that I need to ask you before we move further."

It's still shows as airing from 6 AM to 9 AM on NESN's site all the way through September, which was the furthest date out for their listings. Comcast shows the same for NESN on its listings, which only cover the next 2 weeks.

I'm hoping Sox ownership hasn't reversed course on the decision to jettison this piece of shit show.

Swap in Ordway for Stearns and re-direct the hate. The trio can then reprise the good old days, punching in the mouth any caller who expresses the mildest reservation re the NEP.

When does the NESN simulcast end? I saw it on today in my gym.  For some reason I thought it ended last week.

EDIT: I just read mabrowndog's post above.  Guess they are on for at least another month!

What jackasses. At 98.5 Fred was on vacation at least 2 weeks last month and Rich was out almost all month because his wife was sick. I don't listen to WEEI but since it was August I doubt both D&C were there all month. So good for them for winning basically a meaningless month. Fred said a few weeks ago "see them in September" so I hope they go back to crushing D&C.

They are just stating the facts.  they are not required to account (on the air!) for absences by the other side.   There's no jackassery in this.  Elsewhere?  Sure.  But not here.

Yeah I kind of thought that after I posted. The point remains it was basically a meaningless month but it wasn't very self congratulatory and I guess they kind of have to tweet that. You are correct on the jackassery

The silver lining (if there is one) would be that THEY think this bump is related to their show, and specifically, to their Minnihan suspension. Which hopefully encourages them to keep pushing the envelope.

The best hope of being rid of them is that they say something Don Imus/Michael Richards/Donald Sterling - esque. If they think their ratings boost is related to their "edgy" commentary, they will eventually screw up and talk about "METCO gorillas" again.

But I'm also not surprised - even if the Sox suck, some people still tune in (us) and radios left on the same station has always been a key part of EEIs ratings strategy.

Wow. Considering how courageous Sam was to do what he did this is unreal. Has to be on Gerry's top 10 list of disgusting statements.

Seeing this posted right after SF121's post hoping they get themselves in trouble got me thinking that they will be encouraged to go back to their politics and controversial takes. They did get tons of attention with the Kirk stuff and it did translate into improved ratings. Perhaps they will wind up being the shock jocks of local sports, which is funny considering how T&R are perceived.

They were covering the Democratic Gubernatorial debate last night with their usual fair and balanced tact. At one point Minihane said something about Coakley that they beeped out for about 10-15 seconds, and when they came back Dennis was saying that Kirk couldn't say what he had said. I am on board with rooting for them to talk themselves out of a job but I worry that their own internal restraints might have too much judgement for that. Dare to dream...

Also, NESN was on at the gym the AM and my generation one iPod had crapped out. From about 8-8:30 they talked about 95% sports and weren't inherently terrible. None of this is original thinking on this thread but I really believe there might be an opening for a mostly sports AM show for people who don't like T&R, but I don't think Gerry can help himself steer clear of the politics.

Coakley was (IIRC) among the public persons who ripped Minnihan for his Andrews comments. So, it was probably something about how if she were prettier she wouldn't be losing to Charlie Baker or some other insipid bullshit.

Well to defend them to some degree they were discussing a particularly dumb article on Boston.com that said the Patriots should have signed Sam because it would make everything better.
The statement was in regards to what the author said not anything Sam has said or done.

New contract, quick jump in the ratings due to T&R vacation and Erin Andrews scandal and now these dopes seem to be going back to the routine of more political and bigotry talk. This is the formula that almost drove them off the air until Minnihan came along threw them a life jacket. Hopefully their new contract is relatively short so they can dig themselves a ratings hole they cannot climb out of. The show is completely unlistenable again and i'm someone who would only tune in during T&R commercials.

They are newly signed up and going code red with a wink and nod from management. I will be surprised if a suspension of two is not part of the strategy.

This thread is going to explode.

I happened to flip across NESN just as they were bringing in the smiling young female African-American intern for a brief on-screen appearance on her final day toward the end of today's program. Seemed like a sweet kid, and I'd like to think the gesture was genuine, but can't help the suspicion that it was contrived.

They  probably think they are losing listeners to the Kuhner Report.
