Callahan kept referring to President Kennedy as a "sexual predator" who took advantage of a 19 year-old girl (he was 45!), then "passed her around" to others.

I guess we're not in Camelot anymore.

You know what was funny listening to these three morons discuss art yesterday.

They all claimed that no one could tell the difference between a Monet and a painting you could get for $250. Callahan said he "hated" (his exact words) Andy Warhol -- not his art, but the person for some reason. Then made the tired joke that Minnihan's daughter paints better than Picasso. Which is a hilarious observation that has only been made 11 billion times

Truly a high watermark for discussion of the fine arts.

Except maybe people who like a certain type of art. I wonder if "anyone" could tell the difference between Tom Brady and Scott Secules if they were just standing around out of uniform.

We still talk about Claude Monet 100-150 years after his works. Gerry Callahan isn't -- and never will be -- even a footnote to history. He is a sad, simple man raging against a world made up of people who have interests and curiosity that extend farther than the closest golf course.

Felger and Mazz have been discussing it for at least the last two hours.

The only significant impact! Can't believe those silly fools turned it down.
Well Foxwoods didn't give him that suite last week for nothing.

The trio was crushing Mike Salk this morning after Salk said some unflattering things about them yesterday afternoon. I wonder if the boss likes it when they eat their own.

Of course he does. Because people talk about it and say, "Hmmm. I wonder what Salk is going to say in response? I bet it's good!" and then they listen to the afternoon show. Then they listen to the response to the response.

Ten years ago, EEI used to do the same crap when the Big Show called D&C "The Soccer Moms" and they'd rip Dale and Arnold. And it all goes back to the (very real) tension between Glenn Ordway and Eddie Andelman, who used to snipe at each other all the time.

This back-and-forth bitching isn't real. And yes Virginia, Mike Adams "locking" himself in the studio wasn't real either.

Its a cousin of what the guy-on-radio-who-also-has-a-newspaper-presence would do: say something "controversial" in one forum to drum up interest for the other forum, where there would otherwise be none.

OTOH -- I saw Salk a few times on TV (redsox pregame shows & some other stuff).  He didn't seem terribly knowledgeable about baseball and seemed to be about as un-compelling a personality as I could imagine. Maybe the act is get Salk "pissed."

What's the wrestling term, Kayfabe? That's what's going on (and has been going on for awhile) at EEI.

Correct on Kayfabe. I think the best of talk radio features a host who exaggerates his thoughts and personality for the audience. I never thought Howard Stern walked around wondering at what age everyone he met lost their virginity; but consistently asking that question got great reactions from guests for decades. Doesn't matter if it's politics, comedy, or sports - the best hosts act like carnys and treat their audience as the rube.

They have the Pats in the Super Bowl, laughing at the idea of losing to Denver in the playoffs. If Welker doesn't screw up that punt and Manning drives down for a FG, they'd be predicting a loss to Houston.

On the way in this morning D & C kept calling the Pats official "Sykes". I finally figured out that they were noting Jerome Boger's rather unfortunate visual and vocal resemblance to Wanda Sykes:

So D&C have Adam Scheffter on as a weekly guest and holy crap is he awful.
He brings nothing to the table and has no firm opinion on anything.

They asked him about something from the end of the Patriots game and he said he didn't see it because he fell asleep during the game. I wish I was making that up.

He is so bad they pretty much make fun of him while he is on and for a couple of hours after.

That is absolutely mind roasting. The dude had four games to watch all weekend, as his *job*.
That's not really Adam Schefter's job. Schefter isn't an analyst at all. He's a news and rumors guy. I'd bet much more of his weekend was spent tracking coach movements and meetings than worrying about the weekend game.

No shit, give the guy a break. He was probably (more likely definitely) doing the 10 am nfl countdown, both days and in between shows/commercials, etc, working the phones like a madman.

I agree he isn't an analyst and yes he said he was up early(he didn't get much sympathy mentioning that to the morning show guys) but come on you make a living talking about the NFL watch the damned games.

Also my main issue is just how bad he is, I assume they have a contract to have him on until the season is over but I'm sure he won't be back.

You keep missing the point. He is not supposed to be an analyst like Boomer (even though he sort of took his place.) As mentioned up thread, he is  an "Insider."  Would you expect  Ken Rosenthal to analyze a game or Stephen A. Smith to do the same?

They probably have a contract to deal with footballs version of Hot Stove. Schefter deals primarily in negotiations and rumors. He's arguably doing less work by watching the games than making phone calls and keeping tabs on front offices.

Are you upset Mel Kiper isn't opining on the game? Or that Paul Lukas of uni watch isn't? I mean, they both deal with football as well.

I'm not missing the point at all, I understand his role. I'm really surprised that everyone thinks it normal for a guy who makes his living talking about a game and what goes on inside it fell asleep during a playoff game and admitted to such on the radio.

In any event he key takeaway is Schefter sucks on the radio.

First off I'm not upset I was pointing out something I thought was unusual, you don't it seems.
If Mel Kiper and that other guy I never heard of was put on the radio the Monday after the NFL playoffs to discuss the NFL I would assume they watched the games, call me crazy.

I know this shouldn't bother me but Dennis talking about the weather said it's going to be 59 and with the sun setting at 5:05 that there would be two hours of daylight at the game.

I don't even listen to T&R but listening to these guys attempt to mock them this morning is cringe inducing. They think they're really nailing Fred Toucher by mocking him for thinking himself cool except they're so fucking out of touch they don't even know what is ostensibly "cool" nowadays.

Minihane must die on the inside a little bit every time he has to pretend to laugh at one of Dennis' jokes.

Well, based on about 10 minutes this morning that I'll never get back, Richard Sherman has certainly given them a chance to go all old-school D&C.

I only listen to D&C when T&R are on commercial, but the 5-10 minutes I heard this morning had me thankful for Minihane, surprisingly enough. Minihane kept a calm voice throughout and didn't rise to any of Callahan's faux outrage, and it made Callahan sound even more ridiculous. (Paraphrasing) "I am offended, OFFENDED! by Richard Sherman!" and Minihane was basically, "Who cares? Of course I'm not offended by it."

the opening on Toucher and Rich today alluded to "Big Changes!!!!" coming from some "others" who will soon be out of work, but that would anyone even notice? That they could do nothing about it and it was inevitable and it will be glorious when it happens...anyone hear anything on this front?

Aren't they enemies with the Hillman show (or whatever it's called) too back from their wbcn days?
Maybe it's those guys that are on their way out.

Seems like every other sign is pointing to D&C not going anywhere.

whatever they were talking about was related to the T&R show only.  They mentioned clearing a few things with management and the need to consistently shake things up to keep their show fresh.  Whatever they alluded to is not going to be related to any other channel or show in Boston.

After his twitter rampage on Sunday, how does John Dennis keep his job?

The guy is a total embarrassment. To himself and his station.
