wait, D&C aren't doing the show from the Super Bowl this week? aren't they scheduled to be there Saturday for EEI?
Yes, D&C are in Indy for EEI (as are Mutt & Merloni and Ordway & Holley). My point was that NESN isn't about to spend the money to send their cameras out there and pay for satellite time to beam the 12 hours of broadcast from Indy back to Watertown so they can send it out on their air. I'm actually shocked that NESN sent Dara whatshername out with Jeff Howe to do the bit I saw on NESN Daily this morning.

is there a special NESN segment that they record earlier?
Most of the time, NESN either cuts away to a replay of NESN Daily or they'd replay the previous 20-25 minutes of D&C with the ticker running below saying that they'd return to the live simulcast once the interview was over. Yesterday, they replayed the first segment of the show.

This is like that joke Woody Allen told in Annie Hall:

Lady at Catskills Resort: "The Food is Terrible Here"
Second Lady: "Yes, and such small portions, too"

By definition, turning on NESN in the AM and not seeing D&C on the screen can't be a bad thing.

According to the Twitterverse, Dennis alleging that Russillo was inebriated and hit on his daughter at a party. Russillo alleging Dennis left a threatening message on his phone... back and forth they go...

No, I think this twitter fight is about last night, not prior beef. Can't wait! to see, they both seem to have stopped tweeting for the moment.

I think it has everything to do with the prior beef. The prior beef involved Dennis leaving a voicemail for Russillo in which he challenged him to pick a fight with Dennis because Dennis would kick his ass.

From the tweets between the two today, I'd guess Russillo picked last night to confront him (six years after the fact) and Dennis backed down, or at the very least didn't follow through on his promise to "rip [his] fucking ears off and [his] nose off and....shove them up [his] fucking ass and kick [his] balls up around [his] head." And "Rotillo" decided to call him on it via twitter.

At 5:13 tonight, Russillo tweeted: "@JohnDennisWEEI That's one version, why didn't you follow through on your promise? You threatened me, had me fired and then backed down."

Then at 5:30, he added: "@JohnDennisWEEI You call me again, or we can get in a ring for charity. You in?"

Deadspin chimes in:

TBL claims the two got into a verbal altercation last night at the ESPN shindig, and certainly both characters are reflecting that something went down on their Twitter accounts—with Dennis saying Russillo was "unintelligible" while Russillo openly wants to fight Dennis.
In the end, they both sound like wannabe tough-guy douchenozzles. And that's probably what they are—Dennis, at least, has a history of being a racist. But if anybody out there can provide a bit more context into what went down in Indianapolis last night between the two, let us know.

Deadspin updates: http://deadspin.com/...drunk-alcoholic

Update (7:25 p.m.): Dennis claims Van Pelt apologized to him after the incident.

Update (10:22 p.m.): Here's the report from reader Mark:

I saw the altercation. it was in an alley outside the Bud Light
Hotel. Defintiely wasn't the ESPN party. Rusillo definitely got in
Dennis' face. Dennis didn't make eye contact with Ryan and walked
away. Dennis always looks wasted when I see him so it's hard to tell
if he was drinking or not! Ryan left with a few guys and that was
about it. Didn't even have time to videotape anything.

I'm not sure what the Bud Light Hotel is—last time I was in Indy I stayed at a Hampton Inn—but the details are interesting. Mark wrote back to clarify that the fight "definitely happened" after 2 a.m., and we know how wonderfully things turn out that take place after that hour.
Update (10:33 p.m.): Talk Superstation reminded me that the Bud Light Hotel is where that Playboy party was happening, which just ties everything together perfectly.

For context, the Bud Light Hotel is the Hampton Inn downtown. It has been rented out and "re-branded" by Bud Light. It is on the edge of the Super Bowl Village near Banker's Life (nee Conseco) Fieldhouse, which is where the big free concerts have been taking place.

The alleys in the downtown area are not of the dimly-lit, rat-infested Boston variety. In fact, they are wide, brightly lit by temporary lighting, and are serving as the primary rest room areas, with Port-O-potties and actual warmed, mobile rest areas installed. The alleys are also serving as short-cuts around the massive crowds that the Village has seen the past two nights in particular. The alleys are patroled by paid security, Indy police, and state troopers.

They probably ran into each other waiting to go to the bathroom and got into some jaw-jacking. Given the "combatants", I'm farily confident alcohol was involved.

During the really long commercial break on T&R I flipped D&C on and was really surprised to hear Dennis saying it was foolish for DeOssie to go on the Anti-Pats rant and Callahan sticking up for him. I expected both of them to be sticking up for him or ignoring it all together. What didn't surprise me was that Callahan's suck up Meter was sticking up for him as well.

Speaking of Meter, his star has really fallen since D&C signed their new contract and TSH started. There was a point where you could see a career path for him but after he shit on everyone that filled in for D&C during the negotiation I never see him anywhere anymore.

T&R still get the first chance and probably will in the forseeable future, but D&C are slowly bringing me back into the fold. This morning I wanted to hear talk about Peyton and Colts and the effect it would have on the NFL.

I turned on T&R and they are talking with Abraham about Valentine. Can't stand Abraham and kind of sick of the Bobby V talk but I listened to the commercial break and went to D&C. Listened to them discuss Manning until they went to commercial, flipped back to T&R with Fred talking about teaching his kid how to skate and went back to D&C for the rest of the commute and thier interview with Bob Kravitz.

Why would anyone care what D&C or T&R think about Peyton Manning? Hasn't it been covered ad nauseum on all the media outlets? I think that's why T&R do well because they don't do the ESPN-esque overload.

I don't know, maybe because other than the Saints bounty scandal it's the top sports story that just happened last night? Maybe becauase Manning is one of the best QBs of all time and was just let go by his team? Maybe because the Colts and Manning have been the Patriots and Brady's primary rival for the last decade? Maybe because there is potential for him to land right in the AFC East?

Aside from there, I have no idea why anyone would care what T&R or D&C had to say about anything,

I think what Carmine was saying is what expertise or new angle do D&C have on the Manning story? Anything that those guys say are going to be what you read about on line today and they don't seem to have any connections to the Colts franchise that could give you a different spin (maybe Vinatieri, but I doubt it). Basically, D&C are going to hammer you over the head with what all of the national football guys are talking about, mix in a few NY opinions and then determine how this will affect the Pats.

But you can do that too. And any affect on the Patriots is pure speculation because who knows where Manning will end up: Arizona, Washington, Seattle, SF, Miami, the Jets. All seem to be in play.

98% of my commuting time is spent listening to EEI or TSH (all TSH in the afternoon), I don't watch ESPN at home at all and rarely have time to watch CSN or NESN unless I'm watching the Sox or Bruins. So when there is a big story that I'm interested in like this one I'd rather hear D&C discussing over listening to Fred talk about his almost 4 year old's skating ability. Even if that take is going to be the same as the National opinion, it's what I would prefer to hear given the choice.

Had T&R been talking about it and interviewed Colvin I would have been listening to them instead.

""""""And any affect on the Patriots is pure speculation because who knows where Manning will end up: Arizona, Washington, Seattle, SF, Miami, the Jets. All seem to be in play.""""" Just about everything that is talked about on sports radio is speculation, how is this any different?

edit: This isn't to say that T&R suck and I won't be listening to them anymore, just that I like having a choice, and D&C was talking about something I was interested in instead of talking about Mitt Romney or Santorum which would have been the case 2 years ago before TSH.

None. My point is, you're not really making a case for D&C if you're listening to it to hear them speculate where Manning is going to end up. They know just as much as you do.

I'm not sure that I was trying to make a case for D&C except that they have gotten a lot better lately and this morning was just an example of them talking about something that I wanted to listen to. In the past most of the morning would have been spent talking about the GOP Primaries instead of sports.

They have no choice now. Back when they were the only show on air they pushed their personal chickenhawk neocon politics, spouted racism and could barely bring themselves to talk sports.

F-them forever.

I usually listen to D&C in the mornings since they stopped talking about politics. When they are limited to just sports talk they are much better than T&R. And I say this as someone who absolutely despised them, and refused to listen to them, for years.

100%. I was so sick of them by the time T&R became a morning reality. T&R pushed D&C back to listenability. I don't stay with either one exclusively anymore. As soon as Fred starts to stammer, I change it to D&C, as soon as John asks a 4-part question in that odd little inflection he does that makes him sound like a condescending prick, I go back to T&R. Dale with Callahan is as close to great as they're going to get on EEI in the morning.

Dale and Callahan are much better than Dennis and Callahan. But it's still Dale, and most mornings I don't feel like hearing Ned Flanders giving his takes on sports.

Felger and Callahan would be an unbeatable pair. But it'll never happen unfortunately.
