Series 30: A’s vs SOX
I wanted three. (I’m not apologetic),
but beating the Yankees was copasetic.
I thought we’d be good. (Though I’m not prophetic.)
but early on, it was just “Call the medic!”
So many injured. (Perhaps it’s genetic?)
Team doctors ran out of all anesthetic.
Mediocre at first (but not pathetic)
and lacking infielders who were balletic,
our favorite team could have become frenetic,
but instead, they chose something more poetic:
The Sox made some changes (not just cosmetic):
unleashing star players who are magnetic
and adopting a style that is kinetic.
It’s true hope and real fun. (far from synthetic.)
We enjoy winning. It’s our new aesthetic.
Earn A’s. Outplay Oakland. We’re more athletic.

Joey Estes threw a ‘Maddux’ in his last start (complete game shutout on fewer than 100 pitches), but he’s been awful on the road this season.

Going to be hot and muggy all week in Boston. Good home run hitting weather against a staff that gives up a lot of them away from Oakland.

Want to be a 100% buyer at the end of the month? The crappy homestands need to end, right now.

Opposing hitters at Fenway have an OPS against of .830 against Bello.
Opposing hitters, away from OAK, have an OPS against of .942 against Joey Estes.

Hopefully Red Sox offense shows up tonight...

I'm predicting a big game for Yoshida.

I need this over a beat or instrumental of some kind, that rhyming is beautifully done

Bunch of roster moves by the Sox today:
* Jamie Westbrook recalled
* RHP Trey Wingenter selected.
* Enmanuel Valdez optioned
* Naoyuki Uwasawa DFA'd to create a 40-man spot for Wingenter.
* (Cam Booser was optioned yesterday.)

Estes is a rookie, and looking at his game log it’s pretty 50/50 whether hell toss a gem or just implode. My money is on the latter

Apologies if this was expected or covered, but why was Valdez sent down? Did the team just want an additional first baseman and sent him down for Jamie? I expected Valdez to last until Grissom returned

Westbrook has played multiple positions, including second

Looks like that shaky defensive weekend got Valdez sent down.
And his .973 OPS since the start of June didn't save him?

I think it's a temporary thing. As was pointed out, they're set to face a few lefties on this homestand. Valdez will be eligible to be recalled next Friday, so with the all star break in there, it could just be for these next six games.

I was just looking at the Oakland lineup, and it's not clear from that why they have lost so many games. Decent OPS, lotta homers. I guess it's the pitching?
Anyway, GEAUX, SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
p.s. I'm glad Devers is skipping the ASG. I hope it was an easy decision and he's not unhappy about it.

Seems like they’re taking it slow and end of July seems about right? I’m shooting from the hip here if anyone would like to challenge that

I'm being conservative and planning on his return at roster expansion so as not to be disappointed.

a couple of big series at home coming up. 3 games against a bad team that we need to take care of and another 3 against one of our competitors for a wild card spot. Be nice to go into the break on a 5-1 stretch.

There are not many series that MLB teams play that should be considered "must sweep", but this one seems about as close as one can possible come.

Find a way to go 5-1 into the break, solidify the wild card spot and maybe move into the 2WC, get everyone besides Duran a few days of rest, trade for a role starter and a good RP out of the excess second tier guys, and go to work down the stretch.

It starts with Bello, tonight.
