This will make Carolina's top four d pretty amazing
Calvin DeHaan is heading to Carolina on a four-year deal at $4.55 million AAV.
OMG. Not good for him, but that made me laugh. That trade keeps getting better.Meanwhile, the Habs just announce Shea Weber had knee surgery and is expected to be out 5-6 months. That puts him back around New Year’s it things go well. He missed 56 games last year with a foot injury, now this.
8 years, $7.8 AAV left on that puppy. He’s 32, coming off both foot and knee surgeries. Good luck with that!
Outstanding trade by Bergevin.Meanwhile, the Habs just announce Shea Weber had knee surgery and is expected to be out 5-6 months. That puts him back around New Year’s it things go well. He missed 56 games last year with a foot injury, now this.

Sergachev would have to be going the other way in that deal I would assume. If not than it wouldn’t cost the Bruins McAvoy so why aren’t they involved?Tampa is going to be fucking stacked. Especially on the blue line. Hedman, Karlsson, McDonagh and Sergachev is a ridiculis top 4 and they still have Girardi and Coburn as their 3rd pair. It’s nuts
If they stick with the draft and development strategy that has been working for them they should remain competitive. The young players will get better. The last thing that they need to do is force a move to keep up with the Jones’s.If this goes through, the Bruins will be buried in their own division by TB and Toronto with no major moves on the horizon from Sweeney.
They can and should be competitive, but they'll clearly be the 3rd best team in their own division which means they'll have a very, very tough road in the playoffs with the strong possibility of no home-ice. Tough place to be in.If they stick with the draft and development strategy that has been working for them they should remain competitive. The young players will get better. Tough place for the B's to be in if the Bolts get him, but the Bruins drove this car, post Peter, and looked to be enjoying the ride. They can and should be competitive, but they'll clearly be the 3rd best team in their own division which means they'll have a very, very tough road in the playoffs with the strong possibility of no home-ice. $30M over the next 8 years! Haha.Outstanding trade by Bergevin.
I don't agree. TB yes, but the Bruins are still better than Toronto. They can and should be competitive, but they'll clearly be the 3rd best team in their own division which means they'll have a very, very tough road in the playoffs with the strong possibility of no home-ice. Tough place to be in.
Is Rask in net the reason for optimism against the Leafs?I don't agree. TB yes, but the Bruins are still better than Toronto.
I agree with this. Toronto’s Achilles heel was defense primarily and goaltending secondarily. They’ve done nothing to improve that.I don't understand the question.
Sure Toronto added Tavares, but they haven't done much else. They lost JVR. They lost Bozak. Their defense still sucks.
They're basically the same team the Bruins took care of just a few months ago. I'm not convinced they really got that much better.
Benefits of no state tax, great weather, and a team that just won the Western Conference. Guys take less to stay.Wow, that feels like a great deal for Vegas.
It’s definitly not a bad deal. He was an RFA though, so it’s kinda market value for that situation. I agree he is a very good hockey player. I guess my point was more, the Bruins really fucked up here. They let him go for free while he clearly had a ton of value. They just got a 25 year old, 40 pt possession dominant until he's 30 for less than $4 mil per. How is that not a great deal?
Ok, sorry misunderstood your point. Yes, they definitely fucked that call up.It’s definitly not a bad deal. He was an RFA though, so it’s kinda market value for that situation. I agree. That was the conundrum. They weren't going to be able to trade him. They chose Kevan and I get why, i just thought it was the wrong call then and now.I would’ve protected Colin over Kevan, but ultimately I think the problem was that an acquiring team for Colin would’ve needed a protection spot open for him. He’s a fringe 3-4 in my opinion, I don’t know how many teams had spots open to trade for him and also be able to protect him.
That's because my post sucked, not your fault. I think at the end of the day, based on letting him go, and the guys they constantly played over him, they just drastically underrated his gameOk, sorry misunderstood your point. Yes, they definitely fucked that call up.
With no state income tax you're probably right.I bet they get Karlsson for less than $12mm.
It's a non-zero amount, but aren't they taxed at the rate in which they play the game? So they'd only play half their games at home, and are taxed at whatever rate the state/province where the other 41 games are played? With no state income tax you're probably right.
Radical salary cap idea that would never happen: normalize the salary cap per team by combined the state / provincial income taxes for the median NHL salary per year.
I.e. if Florida is 15% below the mean for total income taxes, multiply the lower and upper cap limits for the Lightning & Panthers by 0.85. Conversely, for a team like Toronto / NYR - on second thought...
That was my thinking as well initially - but I think Dorion gets backed into a corner and fucks this upFWIW, I live in Tampa and most people down heee think Sergachev is gone in any potential karlsson deal
