Another win in the offing tonight against Oakland tonight. Ho hum.
So boring, in fact, that I've decided to add a poll relative to the trade deadline being two weeks away just to add some interest to what will be a noncompetitive game.

So we've gone from "boning" to "boring."

“Buy and sell” is easy to pick but hard to define. There are logjams at cf and MI, but does selling here bring back anything? Can you really part with a power rh bat in Duvall?

Is there any attainable SP that beats simply waiting through one ugly game every 5 for Sale/Houck/Whit? I’d be interested in a better third catcher than Aquaman and 2B has been problematic since Pedroia.

I recommend the Red Sox simply sell off everything that doesn't help them and acquire some assets to help them this season and into the future and also make sure to protect all their current assets in the process. Simple.

Driving out here and local radio said that Houston is trading for Stroman and Bellinger...... that'll hurt.
I've been convinced that Kiké needs to go despite my worry about late inning defense..... so I'd like someone that is comfortable in that role (and I don't think it's Cedanne... .he needs to ripen some more) as a late inning specialist- CF defense and stolen bases.
I'm probably stupidly optimistic that Bello, Paxton and Crawford with Bernardino/Pivetta can get us to either Houck or Sale returning and then Whitlock going in the pen. And that team being able to compete in the playoffs. Yes I am!

Were there rumors to that effect?
Yes. I think I saw reference to a USA Today rumor (Bob Nightengale) about Astros "showing interest" or "reaching out" (whatevber that means) and so now every other publication that repeats it becomes part of "several rumors," and so on.

Of course, that's how I found out that Yu Chang was your long-lost conjoined twin

I've had MLB on in the background while doing some housework. I think I heard the same thing, did a quick look at the screen, and saw that it was their trade speculation segment. Apparently MLB TV has embraced their inner WEEI.

Hopefully Refsnyder rather than Devers against a righty (d2d), Alfaro instead of a professional catcher & a lefty opening for lefties will all be negated by the whole playing the A's thing.

Are we that eager to show Hernandez and his CF defense the door? Reyes doesn't have a ton of MLB experience in the OF, but considerably more in the minors. I'm wondering if there is a reason for that.
If we assume that Chang is gone when Story is back I'd definitely rather have Reyes and his ability to play a solid SS. If his CF defense is solid he's a great fit for the bench IMO.

I guess I wasn't assuming that Chang would be gone. He can play every infield position is arb. eligible in '24 and FA eligible in '26. On the other hand Reyes can man both MI positions, 3rd, hopefully OF and isn't arb. eligible unit '25 and FA eligible in '28. They're slow playing his return so perhaps he does get the nod over Chang.

All hail Monday’s hero - Nick Pivetta:
He mixed things up like an old cassette: a
slider as sharp as a bayonet, a
curve that was cooler than a Corvette, a
fastball that flashed by A’s like a jet. A
true gentleman and a wily vet, a
displaced starter who chose not to fret, a
long-reliever and true asset, a
stud who delivered his best game yet: a
6-inning show with nary a threat, a
13 K gem where he wouldn’t let a
guy get a hit. In truth, I’d’ve bet a
lot of money this switch wouldn’t net a
bullpen ace. It’s like Russian Roulette - a
deep-sleep potion used by Juliet - a
move more likely to end in regret, a
desperate act. Who knew that we’d get a
guy so calm, he does not break a sweat, a
tough-as-nails pitcher with a vendetta
punching out men like Tony Baretta.
Hope it lasts, that it’s not a vignette - a
thing that just fades like a silhouette. A
win brings me cheer like a French Baguette, a
late night cuddle with a furry pet, a
song by The Beatles (the best quartet). A
win brings water and water is wet. (duh.)

I really hope I'm asleep by the fourth inning.
In any case, Geaux, Sox!
As for the opening poll, I still believe in Bloom, so whatever he decides will probably be okay with me. He put together a very interesting team this year. Who could anticipate all those injuries?

Me too. I'm not sure why I couldn't fall asleep last night with the Sox dominating the As. There was nothing to worry about, eh?

This counting stat doesn't matter as much as it once did, but Jacques will be the 14th pitcher to start a game for the Sox this season

Jays and Orioles both down by 4 in their games against the NL West, good night to make up some ground.
