I'm sad for Josh, but I thought he was incredibly underwhelming this year. Sanu is a huge upgrade at this point, I expect the offense to be much better after the bye.
Harry is not an assumption. Once he returned to practice that spot was used. There is only 1 more spot and I assume (hope) that Wynn takes it.Per Wiki Injured Reserve Football rules:
Teams may also place a player on injured reserve with a minor injury designation, but the team must release the player once he is healthy.[7]
So they can only bring back 2 players total from the IR to return to the team, so we are assuming these players are Harry and Wynn.
Treadmill running is much, much easier though. 22mph is still very impressive.22mph is an absolutely insane speed on a treadmill. It's hard to believe that's even true. Usain Bolt's average speed when he broke the 100m world record was 23mph.
I'm sure that pro athletes have access to better stuff, but at my peak condition, I tried pushing a standard Precor treadmill to a 6 minute / mile pace and the thing sounded like it was going to explode at any moment. Note that said pace is less than half of 22 MPH.Treadmill running is much, much easier though. 22mph is still very impressive.
Yeah I meant the actual running. My dad and sister were the track stars, but I could break 5 minutes on a treadmill without it breaking. 12.5 was where they’d usually shut down at BU. Did a quarter mile at 15 at UCLA before it shut off.I'm sure that pro athletes have access to better stuff, but at my peak condition, I tried pushing a standard Precor treadmill to a 6 minute / mile pace and the thing sounded like it was going to explode at any moment. Can the Patriots re-sign Gordon after putting him on IR? Seems like a loophole. Though we know what Belichick thinks of those.I do wonder if there's a potential Demaryius Thomas redux here... cut him, then re-sign him later on.
It's beyond repetitive, but I am a Gordon fan, it certainly seemed his teammates liked him, and I wish him the best.
The thing is that he will need to go on waivers and is almost certain to be claimed.I do wonder if there's a potential Demaryius Thomas redux here... cut him, then re-sign him later on.

When the Patriots work out an injury settlement, with Gordon, he can't re-sign for the duration of the injury settlement (e.g., two weeks until he's healthy) plus six weeks. So that closes the loophole; obviously he's not going to wait eight weeks if he can play in two (or whatever). Note that in a similar situation with different timing, the Patriots could bring back Maurice Harris now even though they waived/IR'd him earlier. Can the Patriots re-sign Gordon after putting him on IR? He gone.I wonder if this puts Antonio Brown back in play, despite the many reasons not to sign him
No. Sanu is his replacement.I wonder if this puts Antonio Brown back in play, despite the many reasons not to sign him
Seems like Gordon wasn’t fully bought in. He looked noticeably worse than last year. I thought it was injury related but apparently not. Disappointing.
I'm not sure people are questioning it, as in disagreeing with the decision, as much as trying to figure it out.I cannot understand why people question BBs moves - i trust him completely to do what’s best for the team and he has a million times more experience and information than any one outside the organization.
From a football perspective, why would you see AB as any more or less regrettable than an injured player?God damnit.
Sure hope I’m not wondering if Brown would have made a difference at the end of the season.
The WR corps has been thin because Gordon has been hurt, so Gordon's removal doesn't really change anything, and because Dorsett was hurt, and he's back now. When Harry returns they are going to have five true WR on the roster (Edelman, Sanu, Dorsett, Harry, Meyers), plus Olszewski and Slater. That's deeper at the position than they were at any point last year. This is very hard to understand, for the simple reason that the receiving corps has been very, very thin as of late. I realize they just got Sanu, and I realize N'Keal is (hopefully) coming. But, still, I feel like those two guys get the receivers back to normal. If somebody goes down with an injury, which sure seems likely, I would have liked to have Gordon available.
Maybe the tread was set to metric...I think the notion he ran 22 MPH on a treadmill is nonsense.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2018/01/04/sports/football/nfl-speed-leonard-fournette.amp.html
Other top speeds on offense: Todd Gurley, Rams (21.98 m.p.h.); Fournette, again (21.76); Marquise Goodwin, 49ers (21.68); and Tyreek Hill, Chiefs (21.64)
Yes they had on full pads, but the fastest human on the planet runs 27 MPH. So I *guess * a post prime, knee injured Gordon MAY have run faster than any player in the NFL this season, but I think it's his camp posturing for his next gig
I'm not sure there is much more to hear. Coaches and the team captains knew that his not starting was a distinct possibility. He was not 100% that week, and his on-field really had slipped that season. So Belichick ultimately made a football decision. It may very well be one he regrets in hindsight, but he's long since moved on.Since it was brought up upthread - I'm surprised we never heard anything more about the Marcus Butler situation. Of course BB and none of his staff are ever going to talk, but you'd think something would eventually come out.
Everyone's such a Smart guy 'round here.I've definitely never heard anything about the Marcus situation.
Yup. Sometimes removing a malcontent has a net positive impact on the team. We'll see this with the Celtics this year now that Malcolm Morris is gone.I’m significantly less pissed about Marcus Butler not playing versus the Eagles.

I honestly never saw a JG cut coming that didn’t involve substance abuse. Figured he was a mainstay unless the league stepped in.Could anyone have imagined saying in 2013 that, in the same season, the Pats would cut Antonio Brown, Demaryius Thomas, and Josh Gordon?
In 2013 they had the following stats:
AB: 110 receptions, 1499 yards, 8 TDs
JG: 87 catches, 1646 yards, 9 TDs
DT: 92 catches, 1430 yards, 14 TDs
Everything comes out eventually, Allen good time.Everyone's such a Smart guy 'round here.
Malcolm Morris Sr.. Junior's already on WalterFootball's 2039 mock draft...Yup. Sometimes removing a malcontent has a net positive impact on the team. We'll see this with the Celtics this year now that Malcolm Morris is gone.
This seemed clear when reports went from Gordon being ready soon to Gordon being placed on IR.. I am sure that many of us would love to know why, but I also know that we probably never will.Apparently the Patriots put Gordon on IR (instead of directly cutting him) to ensure that he won't be a FA. Waiting a week or two means he ends up being subject to waivers, and thus would probably will get claimed by a non-contender.
It's going to be pretty clear if he looks like he's washed whenever he signs elsewhere. This seemed clear when reports went from Gordon being ready soon to Gordon being placed on IR.. I am sure that many of us would love to know why, but I also know that we probably never will.
He never looked quite right after Week 1. The inefficiency was becoming an issue. He may be more useful in a different offense not the quick strike approach the Patriots employ. It's going to be pretty clear if he looks like he's washed whenever he signs elsewhere.
I'm old enough to remember when we were shocked Belichick cut Leigh Bodden.
Yup. He wasn’t getting separation and the hands/focus were a problem, especially the first Jets game. He did rebound in the 2nd half so I think there is still a place for him in the league but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him have a Demaryius-like impact somewhere else. I think Sanu/Harry might be a pretty big upgrade. He never looked quite right after Week 1. The inefficiency was becoming an issue. COuld be wrong but I do think it was performance related relative to the Sanu trade and the progress of Meyers and Harry.
I'm probably in the minority, but after week 1 AB was signed and I think Gordon felt like he was left in the AB shadow. I think Gordon checked out for a bit, and then got dinged up in subsequent weeks. He never looked quite right after Week 1. The inefficiency was becoming an issue. Bengals have top priority but that may change. It would be interesting if he makes it to the Falcons, though they are cap strapped.Looks like Josh will be released in about 1-2 weeks:
