Now that we've seen him live for a few months, where do we stand on the contract? The one he signed or the rumored asking for Boras.
Me too.My choice isn't an option. It's what it was reported before the ankle injury delayed it and changed the terms: 5/$110 with the first opt-out after year 3.
The contract is already guaranteed by the team and Martinez has opt outs. What are you proposing? So it's sad that the most current thread about JD Martinez is this one about his contract. Since the last time it was touched, JDM has put on three weeks' worth of exceptional hitting, for power and average. Moreover, he has had a remarkably synergistic relationship with our beloved young Mookie and is a bonafide MVP candidate (non-Trout/Mookie division). Everything the Red Sox could've hoped for and more.
I'm curious about what it might take for the Sox to extend JDM, and when might be the right time to strike. He's performing well now, the team is winning -- might this not be the moment to see if he'd be interested if the Sox were willing to guarantee the rest of his contract now? And, for that matter, would they be?
Get rid of the clause getting the Sox off the hook in case of in case of a Lisfranc injury in return for JDM promising not to use the opt-out. Probably throwing in a few more bucks could guarantee the full five years. The contract is already guaranteed by the team and Martinez has opt outs. What are you proposing?
I would doubt people in baseball would actually do that.Coming into today the 1st place in a fairly tight division Arizona Diamondbacks have gotten a .171/.246/.267 batting line with 5 homers on the season out of their right fielders.
I'd be trolling the owner/GM with a text or 2 if I was Boras.
Ask him to take a pay cut in exchange for getting rid of some of those player options that benefit the team? The contract is already guaranteed by the team and Martinez has opt outs. What are you proposing?
