Is Rham a top tier RB?

Question: Is Rhamondre Stevenson "elite"?

RB Rankings
#12 in rush yards (1,040)
#5 in yards/carry (5.0) - min 150 carries
#22 in rush TD (5)
#4 in receptions (69)
#7 in receiving yards (421)

There just aren't many players in the league with his combination of rushing and receiving. And if he's "elite", why are people sleeping on the Pats' RB group?

Maybe it was the general ineptitude of the offense last year clouding my memory, but I’m surprised his receiving numbers are as good as they are. By the eye test, I never quite feel like he’s an elite, difference maker. More a good, valuable grinder. But those numbers, in combination, certainly point to him, at minimum, being an upper tier, very productive player. At arguably the most fungible skill position in the sport right now.

Total receptions and yards isn't particularly useful data to me, it often just means you have a QB who checks down a ton, his Y/TGT numbers are pretty pedestrian for a RB. I don't think he's a weapon in the passing game.

I think he's a very good RB, similar to Harris, with better hands, but also should be catching the ball less because he does very little with those touches, and we should be using a player who does more (and can run real routes) on 3rd downs

I like Stevenson’s ability to create yards after contact. He was 5th overall in broken tackles in 2022. That’s an elite level skill.

In a world where Jakobi Meyers to Mac Chandler Jones exists, there is no way Rham can rank #1 on that list. To the topic at hand, I think he has an elite skill set, and injuries aside I think he will produce at an elite level this coming season...but has not yet to date (he was 9th amongst RBs in yards from scrimmage last year, which is very good, just not elite IMO).

I'm of the opinion at least 50% of a RB's contribution is directly attributable to the quality of the OL, and ours fucking sucked last year. So I'm high on Rhamondre.

Without considering the contract, how many guys are no brainers ahead of Rham?

Chubb, josh jacobs, CMC, Derrick Henry, Saquon, Aaron Jones? Eckler and Jonathan Taylor?

Well it depends what you're asking. If you're talking RIGHT THIS MOMENT, or who would you rather have on your team now (considering the near future as well)?

Because Henry is still a better player, but he's got a TON of miles on him and I think by 2024 Rhamondre will be better than him. CMC is fragile, though obviously fantastic. Barkley has had injury issues. So has Taylor (of course those two only when I have them on my FF teams....grrrrrrrrr).

Bijan Robinson is ahead of him for sure. I'd have Rham ahead of Henry/Jones and in the tier with Jacobs. The rest are slightly above Rham but not dramatically so. Bijan is widely considered a top 5 RB going into next season and for the next 4 seasons he would be #1 and it wouldn't be close.

Too soon. Too soon.

PS - If the Pats win that game, do they make the playoffs? I can't remember.
They would've been in a 3-way tiebreaker with MIA and LAC all at 9-8....top 2 of those 3 teams get the last 2 spots. I'm not sure how it would've shaken out...we'd have to dig into common opps.
