iPhone using data while on Wifi

A couple of months back I finally broke down and got my 12 YO daughter an iPhone 5S from Verizon. Ever since our data usage has gone through the roof, we share 10GB which was always way more than enough for my two older sons and my wife(my phone is on a different plan). Now we are running out of data and when I look she is using 6GB all by herself.

Almost 100% of her usage is at home and I verified that she is on our wifi. I poked around a bit on line and I've seen quite a few people who have the same issue but I haven't seen any resolutions for it.
I'm in touch with Verizon via Twitter(seems to be the way they are most responsive) but so far they are just gathering data.

Anyone have any ideas?

Try this?

Looks like the first time you use the camera and whatsapp on cellular, it never stops using cellular. I'm guessing your daughter is taking a lot of pictures and using whatsapp. Reset it according to that website direction and maybe that will fix it.

I'd try resetting Network Settings before fucking with anything else, as it tends to improve cellular irregularities in iOS in my experience, and the only inconvenience is having to re-enter wifi passwords. Toggling off cellular data for apps is really not addressing the actual issue.

If the network settings doesn't work then id probably just back up the phone to either iTunes or iCloud and reset it and restore it from the backup.

It may not but several apps were set up to use cellular data, I've toggled that off and I'll see what happens.
I'd reset the settings as well but I want to see if this fixes the problem. If it doesn't I'll reset the network settings.

Edit:eek:h and thanks for the replies

We have been experiencing the same issues since adding two iPhone 5S to our account for our daughters.  Took the steps johnmd20 suggested...I will let you know if that makes a difference.

Checking back in to say that the steps in johnmd's post did the trick for us. Her data usage hasn't changed in several days.
We have a bit over 500 MB left and 5 days in the cycle, I think we'll make it.

Thanks for this thread. Looks like I was giving my 15-year-old a hard time for something that technically wasn't her fault. I'll try these suggestions. I'm breaking up with Verizon to do Cricket for all of us, so best to get those settings in order first.
