New Jersey Institute of Technology beat Maine last night 90-86. NJIT is the only independent in Div 1 men's basketball.
Their schedule is crazy. They have to play more games earlier in the season since it's tough getting games during conference season, so they play 6 games over 16 days in November, and 9 games in December.
They have 16 road games and 13 home games. They open with 11 of 14, and 12 of 16, on the road. They have one stretch that's 9 of 10 on the road. Only two road games are in metro NY. Most are bus rides to elsewhere in the Northeast, but they do play at Marquette and at Michigan.
For home games, 4 are against Div 2/3 teams, since it's really hard to get home non-conference games in February. They also play a back-to-back on Feb. 2 and 3, against Hampton and Delaware St., luckily at home. If a D1 team offers them a game in Jan/Feb, especially at home, it's hard to turn it down even if it's a back-to-back.
Of their final 12 D1 games, only two are on weekends since many (most?) conference games are on weekends. Also that Maine game is part of a rare non-conference home-and-home, they play again in January.
