Took down a B tier tournament over the weekend (MA 40). Shot better on Saturday at -1 and was a little tired/nervous playing with the lead on Sunday. Played myself back into a tie twice but both times got it back on the next hole. Won by 3 in the end but was up 2 with 2 comfortable par 3s to play so while there was a bit of a see saw the end was fine, especially when the card parred 17 and I parked 18 at the top of the box.

First round came in at 927, second at 892. I missed 2 putts that should have been gimmies both rounds and hit cage on an eagle bid once too. Need to keep grinding the putting out and work more on my execution on the plan. First round I had a bad tee shot and tried to take my medicine, but hit a tree that was hiding. Carded a triple, bogeyed one other hole and finished with 5 birds, happy with that round, but definitely left some shots out there. I think ma1 shot something like -18 on the weekend which is nuts.
That's great. Congrats. There's very little more satisfying than going into the last hole with a lead and parking the tee shot to ice it. The walk down that fairway must have been fun.

It was actually the walk too that tee box that was satisfying since I knew I had 2 strokes going into 18. A little extra satisfying because the guy in second had been full on melting down all round, swearing at himself, smashing putters into trees after a miss etc. It's funny because we both shot +2, but you'd have thought he was +18. I'm pretty laid back and so was the rest of the card so it was a little uncomfortable playing with a guy like that and I count it as a victory for my head game. He wasn't all bad, we joked around some and had some good conversation, but I like to kill em with kindness so they don't get me into a bad headspace. For added fun he was one of the TDs so he had to hand me my trophy and help me check out of the store with my winnings.

Nice going.

Where was your tourney? I know they’ve built a bunch of new courses in the 14 years since I left the area, but I used to know a lot of them in the PDX area.

Websterville, VT. It’s near Barre, the course is on an old quarry site, it’s also a public park and mountain bike course.
Oh… I got you mixed up with McDrew, who
lives in PDX.

of course, I used to live in Vermont for many years, but that was before I became a disc golfer.

There’s a huge number of courses for the population in NH/VT. I have 3 within 15 minutes of me and about 10 within 45. I hear rumors about a few more that might be going in.

Small bragging rights for me. I'm on a bit of a tear, played 5 tournaments this year, 4 in MA 40 and 1 in MA 2. I've won all the MA40s with fields of 8-12, and my rating is up to 913. I managed a 956 round on the weekend to chase down the leader who was up 2 going into the second round so I'm pumped about that. The MA2 tournament I could have come in second except for some terrible luck on rollaways. Had a par 3 with the basket at the bottom of a steep hill, threw it in about 5 feet short and flat, hit something, stood up and rolled 35 feet OB, then had another basket high on a steep hill which rolled 65 feet to the bottom from inside the circle. Then it happened again on the upshot, matched the hill side well, soft toss, hit a root or stone and came right back to me. Sigh.

In other positive news my wife started being more serious this summer (school is out) and she played the last tournament as well. She took down FA40 (division of 2, but she shot the second best score of any woman at the tournament) so we got his and hers trophies. This bodes very well for my future disc golf opportunities as she feels a lot better about her game now.

I won some money for a work steps challenge and I bought a tech disc and a net. It's been interesting to mess around with, the wife has gotten a lot more out of it than I have, but she's newer to the game. It's very helpful for arm angle, nose angle, spin etc. You can also use a simulator to see what might happen if you add speed, spin rate etc so you can figure out what you should work on. I don't think the distances are correct since I threw it and lasered it a few times and the answers were quite different with the actual throw being longer than the estimate.

Bag Tags was at Milo a couple weekends ago. I am spoiled for courses. My rating finally got above 800 too. Managed an 878 round in May and have been following it up with some 830ish rounds since. Slow and small improvements.

Anyone else the kind of disc golfer that says "well, I'm at the course, I might as well play one or two more?" I got 54 holes in today between 8:30 and 12:30.

I used to be. Back in the day, it wasn't unusual to play a one-day tournament and once it was over, stick around and play a round of random draw doubles. Sometimes those were 3 round tournaments too. Now, I'm less inclined to stick around once the event is over. Case in point, I played a C-tier today. Two rounds of 21 holes (fairly short course) and I've been home for over an hour already (it's 5:30pm). I probably would have found takers if I wanted to stay and play more. I could also probably go out on to my course right now and throw 18. I just know I'll be sore tomorrow if I do (well, more sore).

Next weekend though, that will be a prime "well, I'm already out of the house/at the course" opportunity for me. Big A-tier/Q-series tournament (Maine State Championship) and a one-round-per-day schedule. There will be a bunch of guys in from out of town that I only see a couple times a year. Our division (MP40) usually tees off early in the day so inevitably we end up playing another funzie round or two after our tournament round each day. The alternative is going home and what's the point of that?
