I've posted messaged a few places looking for help, figured someone here might have had this happen. A google search only turned up a lot of confused and frustrated people and a recommendation to report it to Facebook, which I did. They replied with an auto-generated message saying they won't respond, but thanks for the report! Fuckers. Anyway, when I get messages through facebook's chat system, I get an empty box with no ability to close it instead of the normal little chat window. The box stays there until I log out and log back in, but the problem doesn't go away. The next message to come in is the blank box and can't be closed. If I try to open the messages page, it just loads forever and never actually gets there.

This is happening on my Windows 7 desktop and my macbook pro laptop. It's not happening on my android phone. I've tried clearing cache and app data, but that didn't have any impact. As far as I can tell, it's a problem on facebook's end and is tied to my account in some way. Has anyone had this happen? If so, how did you fix it?

If you want to try to preserve ABP's functionality on FB, my friend says:

" If this is affecting you:
1) Try force-updating your Adblock Filters.

That worked for me (I mean, when I looked I had no chat bar and clicking on the Messaging button in the header spun forever; turning AB off and reloading brought it back, turning it off killed it again. Updated my filters, AdBlock is now running and I have a chat bar.

I've seen the suggestion:

2) Add the following to your My Filters:

(that may be what my update did, dunno.)

n.b. I only use Facebook in Chrome and the Chrome AdBlock's UI is much more limited than the Firefox one, so I can't test as much as I like."

I've had the issue that for maybe the last year, if I'm logged into FB I can't see comments on sites that use it (i.e. The WWL).

This is kind of an obnoxious take. Facebook charges you nothing to use its service and "stay connected". Your part of the deal is to have to look at a couple of ads, most of them modest and not very intrusive. If you don't like it, you have the option of not using Facebook.
