I'm not going to read that today.
You dont even have to be an optimist to be grateful.Kraft said all the words that I wanted to hear him say. Like most of us, this is a sad day as the era is officially over. But as the eternal optimist, we should be grateful that we were along for the ride in the first place.
If the piece is accurate - and it feels plausible that BB was increasingly isolated and his leadership style wouldn't work as well with the younger generations of players - its time.
I mean, this is the best case scenario for next year with almost any coach.I suspect the best case scenario was that Bill clawed us back to being an 8-10 win team for a year or two and then stepped down. I was up for that. But I also understand why some weren’t.
My 16 year old told me the news this morning. Wild to think Bill was the coach 7 years before he was even born.
Yes, this. And if he blows it and they suck then...you're in the same place. I don't really get it unless BB really wanted to move on to get the record...and if that's the case why did he sign the extension? For all the talk of Bill's bad drafts, and not trusting him to draft well going forward, it's relevant to bring up the fact that 2024 would've been the best draft capital he's ever had with the Patriots. A top 3 lottery pick, with near the top of every round picks to follow that. For the majority of his tenure, he's been trying to extract maximum value out of low, and occasionally middle of the round picks(when he wasn't being absurdly stripped of 1st round picks). And often doing a damn good job of it. But years of that catches up, and a bottoming out, especially when Mac turned out to be a bust, was inevitable. And in the calm light of day, probably even necessary. It seems short-sighted for fans, and the Krafts, to not want to see what he could have done with that capital.
It’s 90% Mac Jones’ fault.I'm pissed, this didn't need to happen
Do we know when he signed it? It wasn't too long ago we drafted a QB at 15 that got them to the playoffs as a rookie. Looked pretty rosey just a couple of years ago.and if that's the case why did he sign the extension?
I don't know if this is sarcasm or not, but that's my takeIt’s 90% Mac Jones’ fault.
For me, nothing will be worse than Brady. That was an all time shitty week. Not sure why this is hitting me harder than Brady…but it is. I guess because with Brady leaving we still had BB for stability. Now, that stability is completely gone. Might still be alright but so much unknown.
I think it was me.Was hoping for another year or two. This sucks. Had to happen sometime so best to just rip the band aid off. I was really hoping he would retire a Patriot. Seeing Brady as a Buck was strange but I always sort of imagined it. Seeing Bill in a Charger hoodie? I can’t imagine it. Fucking A.
Somewhere, buried in a game thread, I believe I bet someone $100 this wouldn’t happen, so I’ll get that money to the Jimmy Fund before the weekend.
same here, yet I didn’t feel that way for Tom. Guess I’ve always been #teambelichickWherever BB goes --- I immediately become a fan.
You know what, this is a good idea for a poll because now I’m curious about others. For me, nothing will be worse than Brady. That was an all time shitty week.
I’d say 99%. If he’s anything other than the complete puddle that he became, none of this happens. It’s 90% Mac Jones’ fault.
I know this is a throw away comment but the fact that anyone can get here, even jokingly says a lot about the consequences of poor draft evaluations. It should also open everyone's eyes that the Pats could be selecting the next coach/GM's version of Mac Jones in three short months if they cannot get their evals right...and as we have seen, it ain't easy. It’s 90% Mac Jones’ fault.
probably not. Vrabel is going to want to be HC and probably more power over other areas as well. For Mayo, you talked him into staying last year when he had HC interviews, he'll have some this year, if you shank him 1 year later he's not staying, even if it means DC elsewhere, you've cut off his advancement chances here and you've treated him in a way he'll probably see as disrespectful. It's one hting to ask a guy to wait behind the best ever, it's another to ask him to sit behind Vrabel who is a decent coach, but not exactly BB.It had to end, but it didn't have to end this way, and this way sucks.
Can we get Vrabel *and* Mayo on the staff somehow?
That was a rough rough week, but this may feel a little worse for me, because it's tout fini. For me, nothing will be worse than Brady. That was an all time shitty week.
The reports were this past offseason:Do we know when he signed it? It wasn't too long ago we drafted a QB at 15 that got them to the playoffs as a rookie. Looked pretty rosey just a couple of years ago.
It was pretty hard this year!I don't know if this is sarcasm or not, but that's my take
It's going to be hard for me to watch this team next year
This is the end, but the beginning of the end started after that 2021 game in Buffalo when the Pats didn't pass in the 2nd half. That was the top of the Mac Jones era and the Bill without Brady era. From that point, it's been a slow and steady decline that sped up in 2023.That was a rough rough week, but this may feel a little worse for me, because it's tout fini.
Thanks, now that's ringing a bell. I guess they just didn't see this coming at all, which is not good to say the least. The reports were this past offseason:

Literally not happening. 0% chance.I don't know if this has been raised, but, god help me, any chance BB goes to the jets? Rodgers at QB, top 5 defense, both a redemption and revenge angle. Makes some sense.
I don't doubt there will be speculation. Someone will jump on Kraft's comment that he's not looking forward to seeing Bill on the other sideline next year. Edit: but yeah, he ain't going there.I don't know if this has been raised, but, god help me, any chance BB goes to the jets? Rodgers at QB, top 5 defense, both a redemption and revenge angle. Makes some sense.
Belichick would coach high school lacrosse in Alaska before he coached the Jets. The Jets are +4000000000000000 to get Belichick.I can't think of a player Belichick would less enjoy coaching than this version of Rodgers.
Well said.He did his job. Better than anyone ever.
Vegas only put that bet on the board for the free money.
It was a move that needed to be made. Virtually every person or group has a moment: even when that lasts decades, it eventually needs a new voice.I’d say 99%. If he’s anything other than the complete puddle that he became, none of this happens.
I feel like I actually understand that I'm really going to die someday, in a non-abstract way, for the first time.I feel like my dog died
