I'm completely surprised but delighted for him. It may begin to revive my long-lost rooting interest in the Dodgers.

They should announce they have hired Kevin Millar and then instantly replace him with Dave Roberts.

This is like button worthy, lol.
What a great opportunity for Roberts, and a great hire for the Dodgers.

I didn't have a lot of time to expound last night, but this article from back on Nov. 3 illustrates some of the reasons that I think this a great match, even though it means I have to agree with Plaschke.....

http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-sp-dodgers-plaschke-20151104-column.html

"You hire Dave Roberts because a team of underachievers needs to be prodded by an overachiever, a team of chill needs a manager whose career could never withstand even one day of complacency. You hire Dave Roberts because, if his popular Dodgers tenure is any indication, his ego wouldn't be too big to embrace new ideas, full front-office communication, and holdover pitching coach Rick Honeycutt."

"To have an opportunity the work for the best franchise in sports would be a huge honor," he (Roberts) said. "An opportunity to work with some of the brightest minds in all of baseball is something that really intrigues me.''

So the Dodgers get a guy who will instantly command respect in the dugout, and who understands that it isn't all about him and that he's part of the bigger picture. Not to mention, Boston success aside, the man bleeds Dodger blue. I couldn't be happier for the man.

Yeah, me, too. I wonder what will become of Kapler now. I thought he was the front-runner.
Kapler was already director of player development with the Dodgers. I imagine he continues in that role. I saw something this morning that suggested that the edge Roberts had that got him the job is that he is from outside the organization, and that Kapler coming down from the front office might not have allowed him to command the clubhouse as effectively (hints that the players would view him as little more than a puppet with no authority).

Probably goes without saying, but Roberts' hire has meant repeated showings of The Steal this morning, which is nice.

Yeah probably makes sense to upgrade to someone who has experienced post-season success.
