Related: I was thinking that with a number of folks cord cutting/YTTVing it would be good to get an equivalent thread for nationally broadcast games on TBS, ESPN, MLBN and Fox. However, I'm not sure what is subject to blackout. I know that last week there was a game that the CBS Sports app told me was on NESN and MLBN. Is it basically a situation where any game that is also on NESN will be blacked out in the New England market?

Yes, if NESN has the game, any other broadcast of the game will be blacked out in New England. The (antiquated) purpose of the blackout is to protect each team's local broadcast outlets.

Yeah, I just wasn't sure how it differed from basketball. I think most ESPN games are also broadcast on NBCSN, but TNT games are not.

At the rate the season has gone so far, maybe we should have a thread like this reminding us of night games? The next night game is Tuesday, BTW. 4:00 tomorrow, 1:00 Sunday, 11:00 Monday.

I remember when all the games were on tv and all we had to do was turn the tv on. Now, you need to have synchronized tv plans just to watch a game. I don't even care about NESN. How can Red Sox baseball be watched by more people when it is less available ?

I don't know, but it sucks. Not sure I'll see any games this year (Colorado).

I don't understand this business model.

It's the most unique day game of the year, just in case anyone else is at their desk with the ability to throw it on in the background.

1:35 start today. Still need a game thread.

Martinez (groin) is not in Thursday's lineup against the Blue Jays.

He is dealing with adductor tightness, and the Red Sox will hold him out for this day game as expected, although an IL stint isn't believed to be necessary. Rafael Devers gets the start at DH while Bobby Dalbec slides to third base and Travis Shaw slots in at first base.

There is a free (ad-supported) version of Peacock, but I’m not sure if the MLB games are part of that.
Considering the game is available for free on NBC, I expect it is also available for free on Peacock. In the future when NBC isn't carrying the broadcast, then there might be a question of whether it will only be on premium Peacock.

Edit to add: should note that free version or not, Peacock does require an email address to log-in.

No antenna?
Nope, streaming only - my TV is in a part of my apartment building with no reception (bad cell service there as well). I don’t watch any over air TV, so never bothered to check into an antenna…

As MLB goes to to an amalgam of different services, it seems like a good idea to keep the details of how to see the game with the game (for everyone, obviously we can all Google for ourselves)…

Last weekday day game of the year. Once more into the "watching the game on my phone underneath my work monitor" breach

Next Wednesday kind of counts. It's the last day of the season and is scheduled for 4:10. They're selling family packs with 4 tickets, hot dogs, and sodas for $49 and you can get some decent grandstand seats in the deal.
