Comcast and end of life modem

I have 25mbps Internet through Comcast. I have a docsis 2 modem that has worked fine for over 2 years. I get the correct max speed on all speed tests.

For a few months, I have been getting calls and notices from Comcast saying that I should upgrade my modem for better speed. However, I am getting the speed I pay for.

Question 1: Am I wrong to ignore this?

Also, 3 days ago I lost access to an online trading account using my home Comcast Internet. It works fine on 4g and elsewhere. No changes to modem or router. I tried connecting directly to modem, still doesn't work. Called tech support for the trading account and they can't figure it out.

I called Comcast and they said it is because the cable modem is end of life. They said I will slowly lose access to specific websites one at a time, and replacing the modem will fix this. Sounds like BS to me.

Question 2: Are they lying to me, or is this actually possible?

Their comments are probably BS, but the big issue is they won't give you support. I had an EOL modem from them and they wouldn't even troubleshoot with it. Same as if you're a company with EOL / EOS switches, routers etc. they're just not going to do it.

Sounds like you don't own the modem. Why not just swap it out?

Make sense then on your end. Have you power cycled your modem?

If so, when you do a trace route how far do you get to the "blocked IP"

Windows its Command Line traceroute IP
Linux / Mac it's tracert

The issue isnt going to be speed related as the phone rep nitwits would have you believe, as a docsis 2.0 modem will still be able to generally surf as it can still connect to a single docsis channel. The problem is going to be that most docsis 2.0 modems don't support IPv6, which is going to be getting more important moving forward.
