The first bowl game I went to when I was at Tech was the Poulan-Weed Eater Independence Bowl. 2-8-1 the previous year and SI's only comment in the college season preview was "These are dark days in Blacksburg."
IIRC it was a noonish start on NYE. No one expected to be there. It was SO much fucking fun.
We took over Denim and Diamonds - a "Country Dance Club" for the week and the locals were utterly befuddled by us. Just a total week of drunken malfeasance - they ran out of beer one night when the Bud Light girls were there. I think that was probably the night I literally carried a freshman back to the hotel.
I think I might have had more fun than I did at the Sugar Bowl a couple years later. I definitely had more fun than I did at the Gator Bowl the following year.
So if you're ever on the fence about "smaller" bowls just go.
I will always love the Independence Bowl.

See, that's exactly what I'm talking about. And it says more about you than it does Shreveport. Shreveport was a fucking awesome good time.

Liberty outnumbering Toledo about 2-1 at Boca.
Not staying. Too humid and rain possible

I grew up 25 miles away. Just too many terrible experiences there (and Bossier) to like it. The bowl is fun though, for sure.

Two worst bowl games I can remember, weather-wise. (1) ND versus Houston, Cotton Bowl; ND won on the last play of the game after Houston refused to punt deep in its own territory because the wind was so bad (2) BC vs ND Liberty Bowl, 1983. Ice Storm. BC had a very good college football team with a mediocre high school kicker (lost 19-18, missed all 3 pats).

Is Missouri’s offense bad? Because Wake’s defense hasn’t stopped anybody since the Elon game.

Nice win for Wake. What a joy it has been to watch Sam Hartman.
It will be interesting to see if he declares for the NFL draft or heads into the transfer portal and plays out his final year of eligibility at a bigger football program. Word around the water cooler is he would like that to be Notre Dame.

Agreed - really wishing the best for him… currently he’s projected as a late round pick. Meantime, Wake’s also had a nice string of WRs over the last 4-5 years, and AT Perry seems ready to play on Sundays.

Man, I’ll be bummed when Clawson eventually gets scooped up by some wealthy program.
