Kroenke, Jones, and Goodell all sound like complete assholes.
I mean... Or you could, like, go home after the game. Sports facilities being "destinations" for non-sports activities is a pretty recent phenomenon. Stadiums existed without restaurants and hotels nearby for about 100 years (and still typically do). There might be flaws with the Carson plan (judging from the article), but it sounds like it had better access, traffic, and parking plans than Kroenke's vision, and if I were funding a stadium those would be more pressing concerns than how much additional money the owner could squeeze out of people by having a few restaurants nearby, as well.Fantastic article on the behind-the-scenes machinations of how the vote went down.
I live in LA and the Carson proposal would have been a fucking disaster. I have been to quite a few Galaxy games in Carson and after the games are over, the only thing to do is drive to local fast food joints to eat in an attempt to sober up before driving home. At least with the Inglewood proposal, Kroenke is trying to make the stadium and surrounding area a post-game destination like the Staples Center.
