I just caught a bit of "Pride of the Yankees" on TCM. Footage of Yankee Stadium in this 1942 film shows a prominent "No Betting" sign on the facade just to the left of the scoreboard in CF. I see it in this 1950 photo, so it was presumably later replaced by ads at some point. Of course, now we have MLB rolling out the red carpet for betting on games.

I'd say up until the late 70s there were a regular group of 20-30 men who sat in Section 1 at Fenway who bet on practically every pitch.

For some reason, before that they were in the rf bleachers; not sure what inspired them to move.

Remember when Tony Romo couldn’t go to a fantasy football conference in Las Vegas. Times have changed in a hurry.
